Jaz Primo's “Gwen Reaper” is just a sweet little coming-of-age story about a high school football player who moves to a small North Dakota town and a young lady who had lived there for some time. Oh, did I mention that the young lady had been in a multi-year funk after watching her brother and father die in a car crash, basically withdrawing from society and embracing home-school? And that she has a pet bulldog – and a pet alligator? And that the young lady has some sort of, uh, powers regarding the loss of life? I admit, I found the plot to be somewhat predictable (although the climax could have been building to alternate and opposite conclusions – it didn't become clear until I actually reached that point in the story.) So what – I found the plot to Cinderella to be rather predictable, as well, but that doesn't make IT any less of a classic for multiple generations! The important thing is that the characters are incredibly likeable, and I found myself rooting for them to succeed harder than I've rooted for any fictional characters in quite awhile. Furthermore, the pacing of the story was quite comfortable and – predictable or not – I found it difficult to put this novel down. I've wanted to read this novel for awhile, and found it worth the wait. I give it high recommendations. RATING: 4 1/2 stars, rounded up to 5 stars where 1/2 stars are not permitted.

Great read. worth your time. I really enjoyed reading this book. Normally this type of fantasy is out of my preference, but Jaz was able to write this book with a certain sense of balance of modernness and fantasy, which i found quite appealing. The more I read Gwen the more i enjoyed it. It didn't take long before I was hooked.  I agree with the others in saying that chewy was a great character that helped provide closure in the very end. Yes it would have been nice to see him more throughout the book, but there was other more important things happening. So i think his place in the book was fitting. All in all Gwen Reaper is a great book and I would definitely reads a sequel, if one were to be written

I believe that it was a great book. I loved the book. Jaz writes in a such a contemporary tone. He uses up to date music and just makes everything sound like the characters he is writing about. Chewie was by far my favorite character. Granted he didn't come in to the book too often. He still was a great animal. I asked Jaz why he picked a alligator for Gwen and he said that it was because of the odd animal. Gwen is like this onion that Scott has to continue to peel back to find out everything. Thats kind of like the character Chewie.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was nice to be able to read a book that doesn't have to do with vampires or werewolves. I did not like all the football references. It seemed like the majority of the book had to do with football. However, I liked the fact that the strong character is a female character. My favorite character was Chewy the alligator. He was Gwen's pet that her father had given her. I like how the characters start very cold and end up warming up to each other. It is also a fast, easy read. It is perfect if you want a good read for the weekend.

Gwen Reaper was a great book. I enjoyed the whole book, especially when it was revealed what Gwen is. I liked Gwen's character a lot. I didn't really like how much football was in the book, but I guess some people liked that aspect of the book. Adding the music into the book was a good attachment. I didn't really like the whole "teen romance instant connection" between Gwen and Scott. The alligator was a cool point as well. The reaper aspect was interesting, and it provided a new paranormal character besides the standard vampire/werewolf/etc that everyone seems to be writing about. I hope more authors learn from Jaz and make new, more interesting supernatural beings. I liked the ending, although I wish it had been a little more drawn out, as it seemed kind of rushed to me. I hope Jaz writes another book showing Gwen and Scott's lives after high school. All in all, it was a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

I really enjoyed reading Gwen Reaper. It was an easy relaxing read and only took a couple hours to complete. I liked that it was a mystery what Gwen was up until much later in the book. (I did not take the title into account until later on haha.) Although I liked that it was told from Scott's point of view, I didn't really like all the details of the football games after the first few games but that might make it more interesting for the guys to read. As the book went on I was more anxious to hear about Gwen and her secret and why she's quiet, withdrawn and even antisocial according to some of the other characters. I thought a pet alligator was an interesting choice because it was different and I really think it went well with her character. I would like to hear more about Gwen and her progress with mastering her abilities but also I find myself curious about what comes next for Scott and Gwen as a couple since their relationship. Overall it was a very enjoyable book that helped to stretch my mind to different possibilities other than vampires, werewolves and witches in the paranormal/fantasy genre.
