Examines the way encounters with health providers determine health behaviors, and how health behaviors and providers reciprocally affect each other. Begins with an overview section on communication, then continues with a section on interactional and structural determinants, addressing professional characteristics, perceptions, power, role relations, and organizational, locational, and environmental factors. Later sections cover the ideology and political and economic context of adherence to health regimens; adherence to various disease-focused regimens; and adherence to lifestyle regimens.
