Hatteras Island: Keeper of the Outer Banks

Hatteras Island shares the history, people and continuing allure of the remote island that has come to symbolize the Outer Banks. Here are stories of the famed lighthouse, the Lost Colony, Blackbeard and fellow pirates, German U-boat attacks, and both the first transmission of music and the receipt of the Titanic's distress call. Here are shipwrecks and hurricanes, the national seashore and Highway 12, the charming villages and the hardy people, and vacationers who love this island. The 2nd edition adds stories of the new bridge to Hatteras, brutal hurricanes, the short-lived Shelly Island, and much more. Hatteras is, as the author says, "a conversation with an island.

Hatteras is the winner of the North Carolina Association of Historian's Willie Parker Peace History Book Award and the Readers Favorite Award. See more information at the author's web site, www.RayMcAllister.com
