Purpose: The purpose is to provide an overview of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of heart failure. This book is an effort to explain the process of coordinating care for the heart failure patient as reflected by the practice at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Audience: It is aimed primarily at cardiac mid-level providers, cardiology fellows, general cardiologists, heart failure specialists, and cardiothoracic surgeons who care for patients with heart failure.
Features: The book covers a variety of topics relevant to heart failure including epidemiology, clinical trial summaries, and standard and emerging drug therapies. The emphasis is on the surgical treatment of heart failure, including bypass surgery, valvular surgery, ventricular reconstruction, mechanical circulatory support, and the role of transplantation. In addition, electrophysiologic approaches such as ICDs and cardiac resynchronization therapies are reviewed.
