About the Author

Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her family. Working for the family construction business full time and with the prospect of taking it over once her father retired, she tried to ignore the lingering idea of writing a novel until it became impossible. She finally found the time and courage to release her creative streak and in October 2012 self-published This Man as an e-book. She took a chance on a story with some intense characters, notably Mr. Jesse Ward, the Lord of the Manor, and sparked incredible reactions from women all over the world. Two months later, Jodi made the decision to give up her day job to concentrate on her new and very unexpected career in writing.

So many twists and turns. So many emotions. Great writing. Love JEMs work.

(3.5 stars) This was a book that I wish I could rate on the back half alone. I loved THE CONTROVERSIAL PRINCESS and couldn’t wait to read the conclusion to Adeline and Josh’s story but the first half didn’t hold my attention. Fortunately the story did pick up and then from that point on I didn’t want to put it down. Just when I though their hurdle was conquered, one final secret is revealed that propels Adeline and Josh into their HEA and their sweet and funny epilogue.

After the twisting finale of the first book, Adeline and Josh return to the conclusion of this intense but impossible romance. Now Queen, Adeline knows that the freedom she has always cherished has been in the past, her life is now governed by ancient and outdated laws and customs, every step and thought controlled by advisors and counselors keen to maintain the status of the monarchy. Despite the importance that her new position carries, she has no real power, she is a mere puppet who must behave in an exemplary manner and obey for the greater good. The illusion of the monarchy must remain, even if its interior is full of intrigue and lies. With so much responsibility on herself, coupled with family problems and the fact that the counselors considers her inadequate to govern, Adeline is suffocated amid so many expectations and duties. But despite all this being a burden, she can deal with these misfortunes. The only thing she had to give up and that she clearly misses is her American boy. Broke up with Josh was the hardest thing she's ever done, but she knows they would never have a chance to be together. On the way to protect the monarchy, Josh would be another victim. Adeline can give up her love, may have to bear the weight of the crown on her head, may have to attend endless events, meet to discuss politics, and deal with people who clearly do not respect her and find her inadequate for the role, but she will never cease to be who she is, she will never become the apathetic, demure woman they crave. If the counselors thought they would manipulate and change her, they clearly underestimated her. Adeline will show who the Queen really is. Too bad she can handle all of this, except an extremely stubborn American boy. Josh will not let Adeline walk away. If she thinks that being a Queen will keep him from continuing to try to fight for this relationship, she is deeply mistaken. Josh will not give up. Whatever the cost. With so much intrigue surrounding her family and so many hidden secrets, and with Josh showing herself to be persistent, Adeline will have to decide what it's really worth. Save her heritage and lineage or live a great love? Adeline and Josh repeat the chemistry of the first book. The two together are completely explosive, but in the midst of so much passion, they can have their moments of tenderness. Josh, though authoritarian and overbearing, is the comfort Adeline so desperately needs. The inconsequential princess has given way to a firm Queen, who does not bow to anyone. But the woman behind the role gives herself unreservedly to this man. The twist of some characters was surprising. I did not expect the change in Haydon as I did not expect the whole plot of Sabina. It was a clever way to insert the great villain. I set my predictions about the King's accident. The solution that was given to Adeline was interesting but I wish it had been different. It was an easy way out of the crown of her head. I wanted to see a development and a solution to the problem of the couple in the context of the monarchy. Adeline fought so hard to just give up everything at the end. Eddie still has a lot of story to tell, though I find his rebellious phase meaningless. With a father who never cared, I do not see why the new discoveries affected him so much. The book concludes yet another brilliant series by Jodi Ellen. Adeline and Josh were a couple that piqued interest and causes empathy in the reader. Adeline, though inconsequential at

I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Adeline and Josh are desperate to be together. But they can't. She is the Queen now. And it would be unacceptable for her to get married to an American actor. And catholic, by the way. Josh is cheeky and possessive. But in a hot way. It is imposible not lo love him. I was even wondering how refreshing he would be to the monarchy. This book is full of secrets and betrayals. And in the middle of all, Adeline id forced to decide between duty and love. I don't support monarchy. In my country they don't do anything vital. And they cost us a lot of money. Even of the members is in jail because he stole some money through his company. But this book made me sigh anyway. And the amazing final surprise? Totally unexpected. At least, for me.

With the ending of The Controversial Princess finishing on such a cliffhanger, I couldn't wait to read the conclusion of the Smoke & Mirrors Duet, and WOW! Just WOW! It had me totally hooked from the start. Poor Adeline - she doesn't want to be Queen, but she really hasn't got any choice. Not only that, her relationship with Josh is put under so much pressure, and is becoming harder and harder to keep a secret. Speaking of secrets... lots are revealed in this concluding book that are quite shocking. Who would've thought it?! I loved this duet, and can't wait to get my next Jodi Ellen Malpas fix!

His True Queen by Jodi Ellen Malpas is the second book in her Smoke & Mirrors duet. His True Queen is not a standalone, you must read the previous book, The Controversial Princess, first. His True Queen picks up where The Controversial Princess was left off. Adeline Lockhart, the princess of England is - through horrible circumstances - about to become the new Queen. But where does this leave Josh Jameson, the world famous actor and Adeline. Both just discovered their love for each other and how to make their relationship work. Now is everything null and void. Her life isn´t hers anymore. Adeline is trapped in history, expectations, intrigue and protocol. Her country and throne are her duty for life. A complicated web of lies, betrayal, mirrors and smoke runs through her reign and life. But Josh never gave up on Adeline. He goes out of his way to simply be there for her, love her unconditionally. After reading The Controversial Princess I couldn´t wait for this next book to release. I was giddy to get my hands on His True Queen and I had high expectations. And I wasn´t disappointed. Jodi Ellen Malpas masterfully weaves a web of twists and turns that had me capivated from the beginneing. The writing is excellent and I love the story, the words and I could very easily connect with the characters. I read the book in one sitting, I had to know what happens next. I will not spoiler here, only so much thiese twists and turns I never ever had expected. I highly recommend The Smoke & Mirrors duet and wish I could give 6 stars.

Duty or Love… As the newly crowned Queen of England, Adeline Lockhart has an overwhelming amount of pressure on her shoulders and because of her title, sacrifices have to be made; because despite her position, Queen Adeline still answers to her people, to her advisers, and, in some ways, to the world as a whole, and with all eyes on her, tough choices have to be made and what that means for her personal life…for the man who owns her heart just might be her undoing. Adeline’s forbidden romance with Josh Jamieson becomes even more complicated, making the possibility of their relationship continuing, let alone, lasting a significant point of contention, but Adeline’s saving grace is the fact that Josh refuses to lose the best thing that’s ever happened to him, which means that regardless of what stands in Josh’s way, he’ll work to prove his worth, his intelligence, his love to the only person that matters - His True Queen. I have to say that I was surprised by the length of Her True Queen, and I worried that the conflicts would be drawn out and the drama overdone, but I should have never doubted Jodi Ellen Malpas’ storytelling because every word on every page matters; they drive the story forward and truly illustrate the position that Adeline and Josh find themselves in, as both individuals and as a couple, and while Josh’s first instinct is to protect Adeline, she more than proves that what she needs most from him is his love, which she’s had since the beginning of this duet. I confess…sometimes the angst really did a number on my heart and my head; Adeline was doing everything in her power to meet the demands placed upon her while still finding time for herself, but her title seems to monopolize and manipulate anything that has to do with Adeline personally, which only further reinforces the idea that as Queen, she’s beholden to her people and must concentrate on her duties, seemingly losing any self-identity she once had. There are so many secrets revealed and betrayals uncovered that it almost seems impossible for Adeline to endure, but while she seemed to buckle, at times, she more than epitomizes the true qualities of a queen, refusing to cower or kneel to anyone except the man who owns her heart. Queen Adeline deserves her title, BUT she also deserves the man she wants to stand beside her, and even though these two ideas seem quite contradictory given her position and the fact that there are so many obstacles and sabotagers to overcome in order to achieve both outcomes, if anyone can do it, it’s Adeline and Josh…just be prepared for Jodi Ellen Malpas to put her hero and heroine as well as her readers through one twisty, angsty, extremely complicated journey to get to the end game, but let me tell you, it’s so worth it, even if I felt like my heart would never be whole again. 4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)

I received a free copy of this book from the author. This is the second book in the Smoke & Mirrors Duology. If you've not read The Controversial Princess then you don't need to read any more of this review! At the end of The Controversial Princess - Princess Adeline found out she was now Queen instead of the spare to the spare. What a mess! There's also the problem of her being in love with an A-list Hollywood actor who will never be accepted as her consort. It's just a matter of time before Adeline gets everything straight in her head as to how to proceed with this "mess." The monarchy is founded in an array of smoke and mirrors. The lies Adeline is uncovering aren't really all that shocking it's the years of cover up that would drive you up the wall. Josh and Adeline's love story is so super sweet. I absolutely love how diligent Josh is at reminding Adeline what they have is real above all. She's willing to give up everything for that darn crown...but what about what makes Adeline happy? The behind the scenes backstabbing is ridiculous. I had to laugh a few times when Addie put some people in their places. I think you'll love this book. It's another great story from JEM!

Absolute brilliance!! His True Queen will have your heart thumping, you will laugh, may cry, probably swoon and also get angry. I had so many emotions whilst reading this story. The book starts where Book 1 ends. You definitely need to have read it before reading this one. There is first sadness, anger, hurt and a whole lot of drama in Adeline's life, she certainly struggles at times. But she is also determined and strong. This story will take you on such a ride you won't want to get off. I was riveted and there are things you will find out that will have you shocked. I know I certainly was. The author has captured my heart in this duet and it's a real credit to her. What I truly loved, was Adeline and Josh's undeniable love for each other. True love!! It made my heart full. I particularly like Damon, Adeline's right hand man, if you will. Some of the things he would say, had me giggling. An absolutely wonderful story that will cause your heart to explode!! Must read series!

5 “Thumbs up” Stars! Oh wow what a fantastic conclusion! What a story! It had me feeling all kinds of the feels, especially the ending. Gah that ending! I wanted to stand up and slow clap. Josh and Adeline are made for each other. “To the world you are the Queen of England.” “But to me, you are everything.” I honestly can say I was shocked on how everything finally went down. I thought it was going to go one way but it went another. Adeline was such a badass. Girl power! Josh is still amazing and ilovehimsomuch! This is such a great duet, I enjoyed it so much!

What the heck just happened??? The drama, the thrills, the passion, and the fire. That is my quick take on His True Queen. Adeline's and Josh's journey will leave you a bit emotionally beaten down. But wow what a ride you will get finishing the Smoke and Mirrors duet. The title of the series fits perfect. My heart broke for these characters, got angry, and then fell for them. My head is still spinning! You think you know where all the lies and scandals that lie beneath the royal family, but boy was I so wrong. Did I think coming into this book that Adeline and Josh were over? Honestly I did. I really couldn't see Adeline come out of her guilt to not follow her role. Let's just say I was in for a surprise. Is the heat factor as hot as the previous book? Would you believe me when I say it seems to have gotten hotter?? His True Queen was exceptionally written and these characters will dig their way into you heart! JEM always gives us readers more than we could ever anticipate!

Holy moly was this good! I hated how Adeline was treated in book one. She wasn't royal enough, meaning she wasn't an obedient robot. Because of this she was treated as if she was beneath everyones shoes. Sadly, most of her family were the culprits. To the people, she was the most real and the most loved. As much as Adeline didn't want to become Queen, she excelled at it. I loved that she didn't bow down. She fought for what she believed even if she had to fight over and over. Her relationship with Josh was even more impossible and yet she still fought. I enjoyed how when she put a few of those judgmental people in their places. I loved Josh. For how much he was restricted, he still came off as the alpha male he was. He fought just enough if not more for him and Adeline. I loved it. Once again, the ending was not at all what I thought would happen but it was a beautiful ending all the same.

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title compliments of NetGalley and the publisher.** His True Queen was one of those books that I was eagerly awaiting and it did not disappoint! When I finished The Controversial Princess, all I wanted was to see how this story was going to end. Jody Ellen Malpas did an amazing job with this duet and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time as this gripping story unfolded. I was drawn in by the complexity of the story, the twists and turns, the deception and the strong attraction between Adeline and Josh. The struggle that Adeline had with her newly acquired role, the her duty to her family and country, and trying to balance those things with her blossoming romance with movie star, Josh was nothing short of captivating. I went through every emotion as I read this book; from anger, to hope, to joy, to sorrow with some angst thrown in as well. Josh and Adeline face every obstacle possible and they continued to fight for one another as they both knew that they were one another's destiny; their one true love. I was blown away by the twists and turns this book took and all that was revealed by the end. Many things I did not see coming which made the enjoyment of this book so much more profound. Smoke and Mirrors was a perfect name for this duet and I would highly recommend picking it up. You will not be sorry!!

6 "MQ" STARS Heavy lies the head that wears the Crown  And the embellished gems are all broken hearts and dreams that are on ugly display, for the world to ogle. The book deserves 6 stars at the very least ( I'd give 10 if permissible) and Queen Jodi has proved yet again, why she's on top of the author heirchy. You can feel that this book is written from her heart. One can safely assume, the process has been exacting and toilsome for her. We applaud your bravery and courage Queen Jodi. Take a bow! The richness & opulence of this story had me agog. What a long journey from Jesse to Joshua Jameson. And for her critics, from Ava to Adeline. She's Onwards & Upwards in her themes, narration and plotting. She's fast moving to complex storylines, skipping the normal cookie cutter framework, colouring outside the lines and she deserves a special accolade for giving us strong heroine with spine of steel who is not afraid of standing on her own without being propped by a strong alpha, even though the said alpha comes with talented hands, and tongue and a charming smirk. Totally swooning on Josh here !!**wolfwhistle** My heart has been kick-started, ready to do what I was destined to do.  Fight. Rule. Reign.  Ever since this duet started, Princess Adeline Catherine Luisa Lockheart has simply stolen my heart. She's the Controversial Princess stuck in her Golden Cage. Her blue blood has been a shackle that has chained her to the throne. Contrary to every girl child's wish, I wouldn't wish such a restrained lifestyle on any free spirited girl growing up amidst all the lies and secrecy. All in the name of preservation of Monarchy! Smokes & Mirrors is their Royal Shield “My entire life is dreadful, Kim. So the dress matches, yes? Suffocating, compliant, covering all my sins. I would say it is perfect.”  Age old traditions and customs, which were put in place for bygone era hold little mettle in the new millennium. Something's gotta give !!! So it befalls on Adeline slender shoulders the mammoth task of modernising the Royal Kingdom. The cost is ginormous and unacceptable to her so she changes the rules of the Game Of Thrones! Her American Boy Josh Jameson had only to ask, “Are you ready to get into trouble with me?”  And Adeline loses her glass slipper! We are fire and passion and assertive and violent. But we are also love, with its many facets and complexities. And right now, that love is bringing us peace. Rest from the storm. Quiet within the chaos.  But By Golly, did they anticipate the troubles they've had to encounter just trying to be together. The entire Royal Kingdom, the servants, the staff is against it. Her hand is being forced to choose an appropriate husband who'd stand next to her as the king and a lowly American commoner is simply out of the question. She's divided between the two worlds and her sense of duty at full fledged war with her desires “You can be your country’s Queen, baby,” he whispers, his eyes glassy, “or you can be my queen.”  He steps back. “You can’t be both.”  Major ugly cry happened at this point. I could understand her dilemma and wanted to hug her, but you can't touch the queen! Oh, what a lonely and cold existence for the Queen!! Jodi surpasses herself in this part 2 of the Duology in terms of angst factor, heartache, steaming sex, boiling passions and compassion. Compassion for the women who reside in these palaces. Princesses, queens, queens in waiting. The pressures they have to face to smile

His True Queen 10 crowns of royalty..... I finished HTQ last night....everything was put on hold (chores, dinner....everything)! Why you ask....because I needed to finish! Adeline and Josh.......my newest favorite couple. Their triumphs and their defeats, their ups and their downs, their love and their hate.....I was there with them feeling every emotion. Josh is my book king.....Adeline my book queen. Ms. Malpas has written a duet that will stay with the reader for days, weeks, months to come. As I was reading, I was able to see myself in each situation. My stomach was in knots, my anxiety was peaked. His True Queen was brilliantly written and will forever have a spot on my bookshelf right beside The Controversial Princess. Reviewed by: Dana D.
