Horseback Mostly Bareback: Short Stories of a Mustang in the Fox River Valley
Up through the early 1980’s local horseback riders could ride through the many farm fields, pastures, and undeveloped countryside of northern Illinois and Wisconsin, and not get caught up by the excessive fencing, housing developments, strip malls, and endless ribbons of asphalt roads you see there today. Large horse farms dotted the landscape and expanses of open land beckoned riders to experience a little of what this country must have been like on horseback in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.

This book is a collection of true stories about me and the local tribe of horsemen and horsewomen I belonged to. The stories tell of our adventures, our challenges and our day to day lives as riders in the Fox River Valley in the 1960’s, 70’s, and early 80’s.

About the Author

A graphic arts career evolved into a teaching career with an art major and language arts minor, focusing on creative writing. A great combination for an informative book on horse ownership covering adventures, several hundred miles and several decades is shared lovingly with all those individuals who have wondered what it is like to ride, own and care for a horse throughout several generations of local history.
