About the Author

Diana Mayo has a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Kingston University, in southeast England. Since graduating in 1990 she has worked as a freelance illustrator for many clients, including Kingfisher, Oxford University Press and Scholastic. Diana often holds an "open-studio" to give advice to new illustrators and runs rouses on children's book illustration. She draws her inspiration from folk tales, myths and "trivia" from around the world, and revels in strong color and lively detail.

K-Gr 2-This traditional rhyme may not be as well known to today's youngsters as others, but Mayo seeks to remedy this situation. As the layers of the verse build, she illustrates them with folksy representations of the characters in bold acrylics on hotpress watercolor paper that reinforce the rural character of the rhyme. The book is slightly oversized and each illustration is double-page, making this volume good for group sharing.
