They say I lived through the Civil War. They say I was chased by Indians. They say I was Indian. They say they know who I am. They say they know my daughter. They say they know why I ran. They say they can still hear my agonizing screams. They are afraid of me, but I am just a young woman. I am not much different than they are. I had many of the same desires, same fears. I am a daughter, a wife, a mother and on that day, I was simply a person who was trying to make a difference. I am Hannah Ward.

Recently I was gifted the book "I Am Hannah Ward" by a friend who lives in Elkton, TN, which is the location where the story takes place. I was very touched by Carly's narrative of what might have happened to Hannah including her alternate stories in the back of the book based on historical documentation. I was drawn into the character's story, the compassion Hannah demonstrated in weighing her love and honor to her husband and baby, versus her conscience in deciding whether to help others in need, especially given the dangers of that time period. Carly is a very talented writer whose love and appreciation of history is evident in her writing, with the ability to weave a story line that keeps the reader enthralled.
