About the Author

Dereka Ogden is an Australian Author, Environmentalist and Artist concerned about the local environment. Most of Dereka's time is spent trying to bring environmental issues to people's attention, through education and fun games with the children of our community through Gecko Environment Council's Eco Explorers' holiday programs. Dereka also writes stories for children about the animals and plants, particularly those around Currumbin Estuary. GeckoEd has environmental programs for schools based on the National Curriculum, and holiday programs for 5-9 year olds. All programs are conducted outdoors around the Currumbin Estuary, in Queensland, but the Gecko team also goes to schools to carry out programs, either in the school itself, or in the surrounding natural areas. EcoExplorers is the name of the holiday programs and the children learn about the natural world through games, activities, especially written stories and craft.
