I was first skeptical when reading this book. I was always interested in the thought of importing and exporting and when I received it as a present, I started reading away... As a person who was skeptical about the practice of importing and exporting, this book hooked me in within the first two chapters. This is a great starters book for anybody who would like to get interested. The table of contents and the chapters are well organized so you are able to read only what you may be interested in. I agree, some of the information in this book will most likely not be used in the real world, but it is great information to know as far as experience goes. The author has a dry sense of humor at times which also makes things a bit more interesting. You are able to tell the author's experience in this type of business with his numerous personal anecdotes that really add some color to the book. I would recommend this to anybody who would be interested in the idea of starting an import/export business or for anybody who was curious about what they go through.

Mr. Capela writes in a clear and direct manner without all the academic mumbo-jumbo. His book can help a newbie get started as well as the seasoned pro sharpen skills. Whatever is missing from this edition, I think is either scheduled for the third edition or deemed unnecessary. Well worth the money.

This is an excellent, comprehensive and clear guide to starting and running an import/export business. The definitions, both in the text and in the glossary, help a beginner make sense of the often confusing jargon. The examples are just complex enough to be useful, no more. The organization is logical. I will challenge the reviewers who fault this book for being too basic. Despite the "for Dummies" label, this book can bring you the entire way from beginner to expert. It starts from the beginning, teaches you the basics, tells you what else you need to know, and where to go to get it. You don't need a book that lists all information anyone in Import/Export would ever want, and if you had one it would be out of date immediately. This book is written for the do-it-yourselfer who knows something about some product or market and wants to understand the entire Import/Export process. It does not assume you work for a company with specialists, or that you're going to subcontract out much of the work. It does not assume you have any experience seeing this done. To the extent you do have some knowledge, this book will show you how to leverage that in your business attempt.
