I really enjoyed this audiobook. This was my first experience with Ruth Cardello's writing and I am very happy that it turned out to be a positive one. I actually won a copy of the second book from the series but decided that I wanted to start at the beginning which turned out to be a very good choice. I ended up listening to the book in only a couple of days because I was having such a good time with it. I went into this book expecting a romance and it did deliver on that expectation but I was surprised that the story surrounding the Westerly family would be such an important element in the story. When Delinda Westerly offers an early inheritance to the first grandchild who marries and invites the rest of the family, Spencer and his friend, Alisha, make plans to walk down the aisle. They are not in love but are great friends so they see no problem with the arrangement. Brett meets Alisha through Spencer and can't get her out of his mind. Alisha isn't afraid to stand up to the anyone and does just that when it can protect those that she cares about. When everything falls apart, Brett is the one who is there for Alisha and I loved watching their connection to each other grow. I thought that these two characters worked really well together and I liked how they seemed to bring out the best of each other. Terri Clark Linden did a great job with this book. I thought that she handled a pretty diverse cast of characters very well and brought a lot of emotion to the story. I have listened to her work several times and have always found her narration to be very pleasant to listen to. I would recommend this book to romance fans. I thought that this story was really compelling and filled with wonderful characters. I plan to read much more from Ruth Cardello in the future.

Ebook version In the Heir by Ruth Cardello and is book 1 in the new series Westerly Billionaire an what a way to start this new series. When Delinda Westerly decides she has had enough of her family’s neglect and wants to bring them back together so she devises a plan to make that happen…give early inheritance to any who marry and invite the whole family to the wedding. Brett is the oldest grandson and when his parents divorced Brett and Eric stayed with his father while Spencer, Rachelle and Nicolette went with their mother. Brett has been estranged from his mother and his brother and sisters for a long time but now that his grandmother has made this stupid plan to bring them all together again he is determined to help Spencer when he discovers that Spencer quickly got engaged to his sister’s best friend, Alisha and having a 6 month marriage contract would help to get his inheritance and help give his company a big push. Little did his family know that Brett has been involved in their lives for a long time but always in the background until now and wants to make sure his brother gets the money he needs with the marriage so he invites Spencer to his office to convince him not to following his grandmother’s plan but Brett is not prepared for the spit fire who his is brother’s fiancé and mess him up inside. Can Brett show Spencer this is not the way to get his inheritance and show Alisha that she was meant for him instead?? Will this be the start to mend this broken family???

Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I truly enjoyed book. It was a romance book, but with enough drama to wonder if we were going to ever get there. Brett was instantly attracted to Alisha the moment he met her, which surprised him since he was used to getting any woman he wanted since he was not only gorgeous but extremely rich. But it so happens that Alisha is his brother's Spencer fiance, well he was pretty sure they were faking it so that Spencer could get his inheritance. Brett sets out to stop the madness and while doing so falls in love, something he does not believe, and goes hard core after her. Alisha, is also attracted but fighting because she does not want to hurt Spencer, nor her best friend Rachelle and the family she felt she was a part of, boy did she get a rude awakening, when Spencer found out some devastating information. I did not like Rachelle, she did not seem like a good best friend to me, thankfully she woke up, but for while there, I wanted to hurt her. Luckily we got our HEA, and now we will wait to read what happens next..

"In the Heir" is the first book in the Westerly Billionaire series, and Ruth Cardello has got this series off to a fantastic start. This is the story of Brett Westerly, who has taken over his fathers company, and to say the man is a workaholic is putting it mildly. Alisha Coventry is a kindergarten teacher and would do anything for her friends, Rachelle and Spencer, including marrying Spencer, that is until she meets his brother Brett. A divorce tore the Westerly family apart, they are not the closest of siblings, but untold secrets threaten to destroy them. Poor Brett, he has never met anyone like Alisha, and he is not quite sure how to handle her, after all she is his brother's fiance. As usual Ruth Cardello has created some interesting and sometimes quirky characters. Brett's grandmother Delinda, is one of those characters, she means well but it doesn't always come out looking that way. It was great to see Victor and Alessandro Andrade make an appearance in this book and it looks like they are passing the torch of matchmaking down to Delinda, sure hope she can handle it. Cannot wait for more of this series, secrets are trying to tear them apart but can love really put them back together? A five star read from beginning to end!

3.5 Stars! In the Heir is a meaningful and seductive romance by Ruth Cardello. The characters are well-described, interesting, and compelling. Unfortunately, the book is very wordy and I found the many italicized "thoughts" of the two main characters' to be disruptive to the flow of the narrative. Kindergarten teacher Alisha Coventry has known about billionaire businessman Brett Westerly all of her life. Alisha grew up alongside two of of Brett's siblings, while Brett remained with his father after the divorce. Alisha is a honorary member of Brett's mother's side of the family, so when a hurtful secret is exposed, she is sort of ignored. Brett is a smart and gorgeous womanizer, and he sees a goodness in Alisha that he has never experienced before. Once Alisha's fake engagement to his brother Spencer is over, Brett and Alisha are able to explore the sparks that have been developing between them. Alisha discovers the ability to trust once again. She also learns that Brett has a soft side and his family has yet to see it. Brett falls in love for the first time ever, and cannot live without Alisha by his side. The premise of this book is good and the emotional scenes are quite meaningful. Alisha and Brett are a hot couple and Ms. Cardello does a wonderful job of evolving the heat between them. Family plays an important role in this novel, and the many facets of the secondary characters are tangible. Overall, a solid read. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

In the Heir by Ruth Cardello is the first book in the Westerly Billionaire Series. I love reading the Ruth Cardello's books since she gets me hooked the first chapter. Alisha Conventry friends Rachelle, Rachelle's mother and younger siblings were the family she never had. She would do anything to help them out. Brett Westerly was Rachelle's older brother who after the divorce of their parents stayed with their father. I love the combination of these too. Alisha found that protecting her friends help her from what felt like the weakness she had in her past. Brett was all business. Brett cared for his family but did so by his financial wealth and in the background so no one would know. He learned this from watching his father. Alisha and Brett had instant chemisty when they met. I love the these together. The interaction had me giggling and smiling at times. I love the banter. This a five star read by Ruth Cardello. I love how she writes these characters. I love how the story flows. I like how she has the inner thoughts of her characters. The inner thoughts coming up and you gives great insight to how they are feeling. This a must read!

In this new series by Author Ruth Cardello the Westerly family is a little rough and beat up. The victims of a broken family, they have a ways to go to put the pieces back together, but with the help of a few sly matchmakers, as they say love can work miracles. A great start to what looks like it will be another amazing adventure. The characters are wonderful and you will get to laugh, cry, and be frustrated with them right along with the rest of them because when you finish this book you feel like they are old friends.

If you are a fan of Ruth Cardello, or even if you are new to her, you will be delighted to know she has a new series out. In The Heir is the first book in her Westerly Billionaire Series. There are some minor characters from her Andrades series. The uncles are back and helping the Matriarch of the Westerly family bring their divided family together again. With the theory of, "Love Conquers All." She has put a mandate that in order to receive an early inheritance, they must be married. Having his hopes and dreams within reach, Spencer Westerly asks his good family friend to help him with his grandmother's new clause. He needs his inheritance so that he can build the company of his dreams. When his brother Brett begins to question Spencer's integrity, the last thing he expects is to be at the wrath of Alisha Coventry. There is something about Alisha that Brett cannot just let go of, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he knows his brother's engagement is fictitious. Her stubbornness, and fierce loyalty just might be what wins him over. I love how Ruth Cardello has intricately woven story lines from her other series into this new stand alone story as well as created possibilities for future stories to be told. I can't wait to read more from this talented author. The Westerly's seem like an interesting group and I can't wait to read more about them as well!

This is a new series for Ruth and I have to say that is is just amazing. I am not sure anymore about which is my favorite series. But I seriously think the Westerly Billionaire Series has great potential on become one her best series yet. And I am saying this ladies Brett is mine. I licked and bite him so I claimed him. Gosh I wish these stories came true. In the Heir is a book you need to check out. Ruth's writing is just amazing and so addictive.

I have loved the meddling ways of Victor and Alessandro Andrade, in Ruth's other series. So, I was very happy to see them passing on this tradition to the Westerly family. Delinda is a character that is hard to love, due to her sharp tongue and frosty demeanor. Her plan to bring her family back together by marrying off her grandchildren is crazy, but it's definitely going to be fun to read. I really enjoyed Brett and Alisha's story. He fits the mold of the workaholic, arrogant billionaire to a T. Being a kindergarten teacher gives Alisha a vastly different view of life than Brett. The things she went through in her childhood have shaped her ability to trust. I loved her sweet nature and willing to do anything to help those she loves. Her relationship with Brett's family was precious, whereas his was broken and strained. The way things evolved between these two characters was a beautiful journey. I thought their connection was strong from the start, as was their chemistry. I liked that they fought their attraction as long as they could, then exploded on impact. They both learned so much about themselves, as they grew closer together. I am really looking forward to more from the Westerly family.

'In the Heir' by Ruth Cardello is book One in the "Westerly Billionaire" series. This is the story of Brett Westerly and Alisha Coventry. Alisha is trying to help her best friend's brother who both feel like family to her. Spencer Westerly asked her to marry him and she agrees to it...so that she can help him out. The Westerly Grandmother has decided that for the Grandchild that marries first and invites the family can have their inheritance. Brett Westerly is the oldest child and one chosen to continue his father business. But this has kept in chained to his office and avoiding emotional issues of the family. There family has been divided but Brett doesn't want his younger brother marrying and have that marriage turn out like their parents. But sparks fly when Brett and Alisha meet! This was such an good romance story...I so enjoyed. I can't wait to see more of the other family members with their stories! "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

I was given this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review. Alisha is such a nice person that she is willing to put aside her happiness to help the Westerly's. Pretending to be Spencer's fake fiancé was a good idea in theory but once Alisha met Brett all bets were off. The instant attraction between Brett and Alisha was fun to read specially when they both knew they couldn't do anything about it without hurting the family. The more time they spend together the more they realize that they are both perfect for each other. Sometimes when you love someone you have to go by what makes you both happy and not go by what makes others happy. I'm glad that both Brett and Alisha were able to find their HEA with each other. They both deserved to finally find happiness after the childhood they both had. A must read! I can't wait to read what will be in stored for Spencer and read a bit more about the Andrade's.

Not sure what to say about this book except that, I was swept away by this story and taken on a wonderful ride of emotions. Brett Westerly is a billionaire without a life, work and success is all that concern him. Alisha Coventry is a strong, independent women who doesn't take any bull from anyone. These two definitely see life differently but are able to open one anothers eyes to all the possibilities that life can have. This story is entrancing, sexy and filled with heart! I LOVED it!

There are three lessons that my Grandmother taught me. A person is never too old to stop learning. It's not enough to crave or receive love, you must give love in return and lead by example. She was a wise woman, who was not afraid to practice what she preached. Until the day she died, she led by example in all she did. Including owning up to her mistakes. I still miss her, but carry all she taught me within my heart. The Westerly clan could have used some of her wisdom. With In the Heir, Ms. Cardello lays the groundwork for rebuilding a broken family. The Westerlys are far from perfect. Anger and pride has set to destroying a prominent dynasty. Can forgiveness, restore the foundation before it topples completely? In The Heir is a story of romance, friendships and family, that is written and rooted in the most powerful emotion in the world. LOVE.
