About the Author

Jessica has a master’s degree in teaching biology from Miami University in partnership with San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. From 2010-2020 Jessica taught various subjects to both middle and high school students. She was awarded High School Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year by her school and the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair’s Teacher of the year award in 2017.

Currently, she is married to her high school sweetheart and is a full-time mom to her two sons. She volunteers as a coach for her son’s little league team, is a trail guide at the largest urban park in San Diego: Mission Trails Regional Park, and is on the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair’s management committee where she coordinates teacher training and screens projects for safety and qualification. Through her Instagram (@Nature.Needs.SD) and website (natureneedssd.org), she hopes to continue to promote sustainable lifestyles and environmental stewardship in San Diego County.
