Description: This is the second edition of a practical guide for clinicians interpreting emergency head CT examinations.
Purpose: The authors indicate that the purpose is to provide an overview of brain imaging in patients with acute neurological dysfunction. The book is intended to be a quick reference guide for imaging findings of different disorders of the brain and spine.
Audience: The intended audience is practicing clinicians who are seeing patients presenting with neurological disorders, and it is appropriately geared for this group. It is not appropriate for radiology trainees and practicing radiologists. The authors are from the U.K.
Features: The book presents an overview of normal anatomy as seen on a brain CT. The images are nicely color-coded to demonstrate the different anatomic regions. Subsequent chapters focus on imaging of neurological disorders including stroke, acute traumatic brain injury, and brain infection, among others. A new section covers imaging of the cervical spine. Image quality is acceptable and captions are adequate. The text is in a bulleted format, which makes it quick and easy to read.
Assessment: The book lives up to its stated purpose and is appropriate for clinicians requiring an overview of commonly seen neurological findings on CT imaging.
