It Takes a Village to Raise a Kid: My Home is in My Head
"My home is in my head..." is a Bob Marley quote that I stumbled upon while in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I read it on a T-shirt that had Marley's face printed on the front and his words on the back. I purchased the shirt and threw it out long after it wore and tore. The line is still "in my head." My interpretation of the quote is that, no matter how far I travel, a little piece of home will always follow. "It takes a village to raise a [kid.]" is an African proverb that many people can use to reflect upon their childhood. I replaced "child" with "kid" because it has more of a flow to it within the title of this book. For the generations after myself, it will be much harder for them to find this adopted philosophy that was heavily practiced throughout many communities. I combined the two expressions to create the title of this book with the intent to explain the importance of where one is from, who one is, where one will go, and more importantly, what they will become throughout his or her journey called life. Life is most definitely what one makes it. Many of us don't have a head start or any say on where life begins. However, we all can relate to calling wherever that place is, home.
