About the Author

Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She worked her way through her teenage years as a back country trail guide and ranch hand and spent a year working on a cattle station in Australia. She attended the University of Manitoba and earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary physiology and endocrinology.
But it was Kelly's infatuation with history and a weakness for a good love story that led her down the path of historical romance. When she is not writing, she seizes every opportunity to explore ruins and battlefields.
Currently, Kelly lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two boys, all of whom are wonderfully patient with the writing process. Except, that is, when they need a goalie for street hockey.

A fantastic historical romance that managed to be different enough to really pique my interest, I've Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm was a lovely read that I really liked. With engaging character, plenty of secrets, and the constant worry of discovery, this book was a delight and I really enjoyed it. Gisele was certainly a strong heroine. She survived her husband's abuse, got herself and her stepdaughter away from him, and used her knowledge to help other women in her situation. And, when it came time to face her worst fear to prevent another from making the mistake of marrying a monster, she did it without hesitation. She was a kind, tough, and a truly wonderful heroine who I really liked. Jamie was a delight as well. He was the epitome of a gentleman, if not by birth, then by the way he treated everyone with respect and never hesitated in helping other people. He wanted to help Gisele not only for the job it provided, but because he also genuinely thought it was the right thing to do. He was a total sweetie and I adored him. The romance was lovely. The build up of the characters learning to trust each other, then fall in love with each other, was well done. They were a perfectly matched couple, in their strength and kindness. And, they definitely had enough chemistry between them to turn the heat up. I thought they were wonderful together. The plot moved quickly and kept me hooked all the way through. The constant threat of Gisele being discovered while she was in London kept me on the edge of my seat and all those secrets certainly made things more interesting. I really liked the story and the ending was perfect. I've Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm was an absolutely delightful, truly lovely historical romance. It was sweet, suspenseful, and full of intriguing secrets. Romance lovers, this is definitely a book you won't want to miss. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Ms. Bowen is a gifted author! I just found her a few days ago and could not stop devouring her books. Her characters are all different, with their own "voices", concerns and issues which are a great improvement upon romance authors who recycle characters (different names, but essentially the same character). Don't let the book title or the cover picture deter you from the book. It is a very worthwhile book highlighting issues that are relevant not only in the 1800's. The characters-- Gisele and Jamie are a great start to the Worth series. Enjoy!

Plot and Story Line I’ve Got My Duke To Keep Me Warm is the first book in the series, and what a book!! This is also my first book from this author, and I was impressed to say the least. I fell in love with this story, and lately I have been a bit bored with regency’s lately, but this one revitalized my interest again, and in ways I didn’t see coming. I loved the way it starts, and how it ends and everything in between. This was a winner for me, and it was quite unique in certain aspects. My favorite was the secret identity trope. Now even though she has faked her own death but is technically still married, and she and Jamie have a bond forming between them, and that didn’t both me at all…because quite frankly her husband is one mean and evil man who needs to be destroyed. And some of the side characters were just great, especially the Dowager Duchess of Worth…I can see how she will be a center figure in this series, and anyone that can bring a chicken to a ball and get away with it…well she has my vote!! As the story unravels, and we see Jamie and Gisele, become closer, we also see the makings of the plot increase, and tensions rise and we get to see some mystery and dangerous moments that keep you captivated. We also see hints of the characters that take a play in the next book, and see of bit of chemistry there, so I am very on edge to get that book next. What is wonderful about this book, is how it keeps you hooked and interested all the way through, and seeing the story line build and build, This is a story that is so different from your typical regency romance…its so much more…it has substance, humor, romance, edge of your seat action and a story that never ends!! The Cover Isn’t this such a pretty winter cover…I love her dress with the cape flowing around her. Overall View I’ve Got My Duke To Keep Me Warm is a warm and sensual read, that grabs you from the beginning, it’s a tale of love, danger, and overcoming your greatest fear to embrace the most consuming love….EXHILIARATING!!

Good story however, both the title and the cover art mis represent the story in which the hero is not a Duke nor is the story apparently set in winter. Maybe a better title would by My Almost Duke, The Reluctant Hero of Waterloo, The Healing Heart, The Lady's Return, Behind the Masquerade. You read and decide.

My first book by Kelly Bowen and I’m so excited that I’ve “discovered” such a brilliant historical romance author!  I can tell I’ve many hours of delightful, insightful reading ahead with her books and I will follow her releases diligently.  In this story the author intertwines a passionate romance between Gisele and Jamie with the serious (but little talked about “back in the day”) issue of spousal abuse.  The intertwining was done with chilling suspense and keen planning so that I was reading with a pounding heart and could not lift my eyes from the pages as I read this story in two nights.  But it was worth losing sleep over…it was a truly refreshing, exciting story that I highly recommend.  Thank you, Ms. Bowen for your writing!

(Reviewer's Note: This story deals with the issue of domestic abuse as well as the injuries sustained by the abused. Both are addressed in my review. Please take this into consideration before reading further or purchasing this book.) Gisele was a fascinating heroine. She wasn't some society miss looking for a husband during the Season. She wasn't a spoiled daughter setting her cap for the most eligible bachelor. She wasn't even a wallflower or a fallen woman. By all accounts, actually, she wasn't even alive. She faked her death to escape a cruel husband and to keep her stepdaughter safe. She refused to play the victim any longer, choosing instead to do what was necessary in order to live longer than one more day. She became a beacon of hope for women in similar situations. She did what was necessary, had connections that were necessary, to make her mission in life a success. In the course of four short years, she saved countless women from abuse by sneaking them away, giving them new identities, and finding them new places to live. Jamie was a surprising and delightful addition to Gisele's intimate circle. He battled his own demons--PTSD, bitterness, self-loathing, and abandonment by his family--to rise to the occasion and stand by Gisele when she decided to stop her madman husband from hurting another woman. In the process, he discovered a reason for living again and it was Gisele. She showed him how to live again simply by being the example he needed. As a result, her strength became his and the love they shared was undeniable, unbreakable, and unconditional. Abuse isn't pretty. The slice of a knife, the snap of a crop, and the lash of a whip over flawless skin can't be romanticized. The scars left behind are marks for the abuser to bask in, evidence of their handiwork on a person who is weaker than them. They can't be erased, can't be hidden. In the stark light of reality, long after their abuser has gone away or died, the victim will always have reminders of the hell they lived through. Gisele's abuser was her husband, a man who should have protected her, not mistreated her. Each time he raised his hand or a weapon against her was because, in his mind, she deserved it. How do you romanticize such twisted logic? You can't, but there can be that silver lining that gives a person hope. Gisele was other women's silver lining, and Jamie was hers. He was the first man outside of her intimate circle of friends to reassure her that no man would lay a finger on her like her husband had, that she would not have to be locked away in a gilded cage in the middle of the country again. He was hope and light and love in a world where she was all alone despite her companions. He gave her a reason to trust in a man again, to love a man again. He made good on his promise by loving her with tenderness not whips, by disagreeing with just words not fists. From beginning to end, as secrets and agendas were made known, as risks were weighed and taken, my heart was in my throat. I laughed and cried and contemplated as the story unfolded. I fell in love, was filled with hate. I wanted happiness but revenge as well. Ms. Bowen did a wonderful job of tugging at my heartstrings, making me feel more than one emotion while I read, and pulling me into Jamie and Gisele's world with detail-oriented, well thought out chapters and unforgettable characters. "You have to let it go if you ever want a chance at living again." (Gisele to Jamie, ARC, Loc 2672) 4.5* (Received from NetGalley via Tasty Book Reviews for an honest review)

The title almost caused me NOT to buy this book. It is a very good read, but the title is ridiculous knowing the serious story within.

This a delightful and great story, Kelly Bowen did a fantastic job in her first book. Thank you Kelly Bowen

Wonderful new book by a new author! I do not write plot spoiler reviews but the only thing I didn't like about this book was the cover. It's beautiful, but it made me think this was a Christmas story and it takes place in May! The title may be a little cheesy, but the book is well written with a story that didn't make me feel that I was reading something I've read before. I will gladly read the rest of this series.

I don’t read many historicals. Every once in a while an author catches my interest and I’m hooked. Such is the case with Kelly Bowen. Her first book, I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm has one of my all-time favorite covers. If that wasn’t enough, it takes on serious social issues. The hero made me laugh throughout, always a winner in my book. If you, like me, are a rare reader of historicals, this is a great place to start. Bowen has a great voice that draws readers in quickly and doesn’t let them go. Even better, this is a series.

266 pages. Spicy love scenes. Can be read as a stand-alone. Does not end in pregnancy or birth. Fantastic book. Not sure why it's called I've Got a Duke to Keep Me Warm because he's not a duke but it was a great book. Loved the characters, great story line, loved all the side characters as well.
