About the Author

Javonna Wylie adopted the alias Jovi The Modest in 2013 at her college campus. Jovi is a Chester County native, born and raised in Southeastern Pennsylvania. She encountered acts of racism throughout her adolescence and witnessed how herself, her family and peers were mistreated for being black or latinx. Her family raised her to be pro-black as they provided her with African, Black American and other ethnic brown Barbies with different textured hair; because of this she had a head start on understanding the power of self-love, living in her truth and advocating for what is right. Her love for writing and poetry began when she was 8 years old when she started journaling. An Intrapreneurial Social Worker by profession but a poet (and proud Pisces) at heart, she has always posted her poems on her Instagram account but never performed her own work. Fall 2021, Jovi goes public at 28 years old.
