About the Author

Laurel Emery grew-up in Port Washington on the North Shore of Long Island, NY. She learned to knit at the local yarn shop when she was eight. Laurel was always creating and designing things and she always had a dog. She majored in Advertising Design at The School of Visual and Performing Arts, Syracuse University and received a BFA, cum laude . Laurel spent a semester abroad in London. Laurel started her career in advertising in New York and became an Art Director, working at JWT and Ogilvy & Mather. She then worked as a freelance Art Dirctor and as a Creative Consultant for Prudential Securities. During that time Laurel traveled extensively in Europe and Mexico. And she never stopped knitting. Eager to change her career, Laurel turned to her love of knitting and dogs and started Style Hounds in 2004. She designs, knits and then writes the patterns for all her designs. She sells knit-kits and finished products, all 100% alpaca, hand-knit by women in Bolivia, fair trade. Laurel lived in Soho for 35 years with her husband, daughter and five dogs. They now live in the Hudson Valley and Merida, Mexico where she is an active volunteer at Evolucion Animal, a sanctuary for abused and rescued dogs and cats in the Yucatan.
