About the Author

Doré Ripley holds a deep passion for the realm of fantasy, particularly the elements of the fantastical that permeate our everyday lives. She delights in epic time travel stories, dark academia, and breathtaking adventures. Escaping the real world, she revels in exploring new lands and cultures through reading.
She focuses on examining how women were treated in past societies by analyzing their portrayal in a culture's literature. Women live in epic Medieval fantasy, in works such as the The Legend of King Arthur—a work that led to all those chivalric fantasies still popular today. Renaissance literature and drama advanced the genre while placing women in fantastical settings, as seen in Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Faerie Queene, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
Her writings have found their place across a spectrum of platforms—ranging from popular magazines to scholarly journals, textbooks, and novels. Conference papers led Ripley on journeys crisscrossing the nation to address many subjects from fairy tales, comics, and science fiction to film noir and transhumanism, as well as Renaissance and Medieval literature.
As a professor at California State University, East Bay Ripley taught critical reading and writing to a culturally diverse mix of college students. She also taught many literature courses including Comics as American Literature, Short Film, Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature, American Master Works, Children's Literature, Shakespeare and more.
