A book to start conversations with children about tough emotions and feelings.
Klippe the Viking feels worthless, useless and like she doesn't belong; but throughout her story she realises this is not the case.
This book tackles feelings around worthless, uselessness and not belonging. Created in collaboration with child psychologists, this book will help open up children to these feeling; allowing adults/guardians to start conversations about these feelings. This book should be used as a tool, to help start and open children to conversations around these feelings.
These are complex and hard emotions to understand, so this book takes a stage approach. Going through multiple scenarios to connect to the feelings and how to process them different situations. The 3 separate scenarios in this book, can be read as 3 stories to children when they are younger, and then as a complete book as they age. This way they are able to see that change happens over time, and we only need to do our best.
Klippe struggles in school and doesn't believe in her capabilities, she also doesn't feel like she has much to offer the other Vikings, and finally she doesn't feel like she is allowed or able to do sports. At each moment, she finds strength not only in herself, but from the people around her, helping her realise that she only has to be herself, and that she should have a go and try things.
Klippe the Viking is part of a series of SEL picture books, based on a group of children all living in the same village who are faced with situations that they learn from.
