About the Author

Upon completion of my doctoral research project in 2017, my findings suggested that there was a need for professional development (PD) with a specific focus on increasing teacher self-efficacy when teaching multicultural literacy instruction to diverse low socio-economic status (SES) urban middle school students. As a Doctor of Education and a passionate teacher, my book is proposing that all educators should have the opportunity to engage in intentional PD that promotes the best instructional practices for educators teaching explicit literacy skills and life skills to poor children from poverty stricken communities in urban school districts who are considered to be low social and economic status (SES) urban middle and high school students. The ultimate goal of my research is to increase student literacy achievement gains in all communities, in every school district, and particularly in poverty stricken urban schools across our nation.
