About the Author

Born in Liverpool, England, Robert F Barker served thirty years as a police officer and detective, most of it working in and around some of the Northwest's grittiest towns and cities. He likes to write stories that are dark and edgy, but credible enough for the reader to believe they may be based on some sort of reality, which of course they often are. (Names changed to protect the innocent.. etc.). As a police officer, he learned that no matter where people live, whatever their position in society, they are never far from places where darkness dwells. Those places may be inner city sink estates where drugs are dealt and violence rules, or or leafy suburbs where neat gardens and lace curtains conceal the sort of evil that no one ever imagines - until the worst happens.

As both a former Senior Investigating Officer and a Firearms Incident Commander, he knows all about the pressures police officers face, as well as what it means to have to make life-and-death decisions in the heat of live operations. Given his extensive experience, his stories are as authentic a portrayal of crime and policing as in any modern crime fiction.

He splits his writing-time between his family home in Cheshire, and the beautiful island of Cyprus, where he gains inspiration for a series of Cyprus-based thrillers which he intends will compliment his UK novels.

The story is deep with great plot details that make you want to keep reading, even after midnight!

More twists and turns than can be counted. While the subject matter is SMBD, there isn’t anything sexually graphic in the story; it mostly deals with the psychology of the lifestyle and the murders. With characters that are very well developed and a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end, this is a great book. Looking forward to the second in the trilogy

Good story line, dragged in the middle. Needs better editing.

Easy to read. A very different subject matter, I think handled well.

Highly recommend this book and have already put book 2 on my read next list. Really like the protagonist and his colleague. (As another reviewer mentioned, the sexual lives of the victims is not over done nor the focus of the storyline). --Books4Me

Enjoyed the twist at the end. Like the vulnerabilities of the characters, made them more human.

Very well-written, "keep-you-guessing" police procedural. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the scene where they think they have caught the killer doesn't hold up. I don't want to give it away but the author doesn't sufficiently explain how it was that the victim ended up as she did while the police were in the garage listening in. There simply wasn't enough time - even with help - for the scene to be found that way. I would have appreciated an explanation that was plausible.
