This is a good book for the quilter who wants to save time by using pre-cut fabric strips (jelly rolls) and/or squares (charms or layer cakes). The directions are are clear and concise and there are lots of pictures. This is a good reference book for your quilting library.

I am currently making a quilt using a pattern in this book and feel sure I will be making other quilts featured in this book also. The directions are easy to follow and the quilt designs use up every bit of fabric. If you like using Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charms, you should get a lot of use from this book. I like to use my own color schemes, more bright colors than they use,and so far it's working out fine.

An accomplished quilt teacher I know once told her class that to help us avoid our natural tendency to mimic colours of an original quilt, we should photocopy its image in black and white. This retains the idea of the pattern and its contrasting tones, but helps free us from producing a replica. While this volume does not do that, it does present two versions of the same quilt in very different colours. That, too, helps to unblock a mindset. Unfortunately, given that all fabrics used in the quilts for this book are manufactured by Moda, there's a certain sameness to them. Lovely fabrics. Lovely patterns (although not particularly original). But by the time one reaches the end of the book, I felt I had seen them all before.
