Si la mémoire généalogique a nourri l’imaginaire des auteurs de la littérature francophone mauricienne, les contextes discursifs nouveaux vont forger ses caractéristiques. Cette étude se veut offrir une vue panoramique de la perspective fantastique des origines à nos jours. Ainsi pourrons-nous analyser son évolution d’une manière chronologique permettant aux lecteurs de mieux situer les enjeux : les éléments fantastiques deviennent des vecteurs de création et de dialogue culturel ; permettent de plonger dans une histoire géologique de Maurice commencée il y a dix millions d’années ; autorisent la compréhension du phénomène étrange qui plonge dans une expérience sensorielle liée aux plaisirs subtils et à la peur nocturne ; poussent à étudier le fantastique comme constituant d’un jeu littéraire avec les clichés de la littérature fantastique occidentale ; perçoivent l’exploration du fantastique comme porteur d’un regard sur la perception extrasensorielle, en lien avec l’épaisseur psychologique et culturelle qui a bercé la littérature francophone mauricienne.
