Description: The legal and ethical responsibilities of the dental profession are provided in countless detail in this book.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a guide for the dental professional to practice within the law governing their state. I think this is a worthy objective indeed. I wish this book could be required reading for dental professionals before they take the board exams, certifying exams, and registered exams. The author's objectives are met simply by showing the relationship between the law and the dental profession.
Audience: According to the author, this book is written basically for dental hygienists and dental assistants. In my opinion it is written for anyone working in the dental field. I believe the author, a registered dental hygienist and attorney at law, is a credible authority on the subject matter, and indeed she has probably witnessed or heard evidence in some of the cases mentioned.
Features: This book is divided into six sections and each section contains three chapters, except Section II which contains six chapters. The final section includes discussion relating to changing the law. In each chapter actual case studies and study questions are provided. The study questions are very useful. The appearance of this book is good, the cover is composed of soft colors, and there are few illustrations. The glossary really helped me master the legal terminology.
Assessment: This book belongs in dental offices, dental schools, law libraries, and dental libraries. It is an excellent reference for those in the dental auxiliaries who wish to learn more about what is legal and what is not. Each person working in the dental profession should know what he or she is legally responsible for by law. I found the case studies to be most effective in holding my interest. I am so glad this book is written in easy to understand language.
