About the Author

Youmee Lee is a deaf Korean American animator and teacher based in New York City. Lee has an MFA in Film and Animation from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MA in Deaf Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition to her award-winning animated film, “Rite of Identity,” in 2024, Lee created an animated “Doodle” that Google posted on their homepage to celebrate Dorothy "Dot" Miles, a pioneer of sign language poetry.
