Overview

I think most of us tend to live each day, one a day at a time. I know I didn't think about growing older over the years. I was busy with the tasks of being a wife, a mother and a teacher. In mid-life I was surprised by a diagnosis of breast cancer and my sense of awareness of living each day began to change. I became mindful of the world around me in a deeper sense but here was something else happening of which I was unaware. I was growing older. Some personal life experiences caused me to once again 'pay attention' and I was back to writing. Another book was on my mind and in my heart.
This book is for all of you ordinary people who, like me, are growing older. What I discovered is that none of us are 'ordinary'. Aging brings fears and joys, challenges and adventures. Aging is not a 'dance in the park' but it is inevitable and we can do it! We all experience it differently. I have included stories of my adventures as well as stories from others who are on the same path. There are thoughts for quiet times as well as ways in which you can participate in the process. It's a book for you to read as you discover your journey of growing older, one day at a time.
We can do this journey together as we support and love each other through the experience.

About the Author

I grew up in a small Minnesota town and during those years, no one talked much about ‘getting older’. Everyone worked hard and no one retired. The only thing that changed was that farmers who had become ‘too old’ for farming, moved to town. I didn’t think much about growing older.
I reached an age where I ventured out on my own. I didn’t know what I wanted to be but the best choice seemed to lean toward teaching. Back then there were not many choices for women. An unexpected door opened for me while in college and I focused my attention on the Arts. There was a journey ahead that I most certainly had not planned for myself.
My husband and I married and our work brought us to Ohio. We found Ohio warmer than Minnesota and we remained in Ohio. Life was good for us. Along with our daughter and eventually her family we have been blessed to enjoy many adventures in our new home state. Numerous opportunities were available as I continued my career in the Arts. Then another door opened. I wrote my first book, GOD BLESSED THEM FOR THE JOURNEY. I loved what I was doing…creating and writing. Both have remained important to me whether I create and write for others or just for myself.
I am about to enter my 8th decade and a thought came to me. I am getting older! Back to the writing.
My husband and I have retired in a lovely lake community, living close to our daughter and her family. Life is still good. We are healthy and growing older. My adventure this time as I write is to share some of my experiences about the PROCESS of growing older. I look forward to sharing the journey with you. We can do this aging thing!
