This author seems to like writing these women who are walking disasters. Where are all the capable, strong, witty, beautiful, fun-loving heroines? No thanks. Immature bumbling women just wont cut it.

Life Next Door by J.D. Hollyfield was marvelous! Definitely a five star book. I was laughing from the beginning and it just kept on throughout the book. Of course there were serious parts and they drew me in just as much as the humor. This story was so real and I could definitely connect with CeCe and how she dealt with her situations. Everyone is childish sometimes, some more than other but I thought she was wonderful! Also, the lovely, handsome Trent. I loved him, honestly I loved all the characters J.D. Hollyfield created in this novel.

was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. What a fun ride! Priscilla has had a tragically amusing life. Her parents were Elvis fans who never grew up, and never really raised their daughter. Falling in love with her high school sweetheart and helping him to follow his dreams, poor Cece never had the chance to follow her own. Thankfully, she's happy working at a local bakery, earning local fame for her sweet concoctions. Her marriage is rather lifeless, and her dreams stifled, but she goes about the day to day. Then, it all falls apart. Her husband has an affair with the bimbo next door, and the next thing Cece knows, she's all alone and maxing out her ex's credit card to start over fresh. Good thing he didn't cancel the wine club membership before he moved out. Cece is hilarious. She's clumsy, awkward, and absolutely vibrantly funny. I felt a kinship to her character in a shared attachment to wine, and a love of throwing tantrums. It's no wonder that when a new, very sexy, neighbor moves in to the bimbo's house, she's more than a little frazzled. Time for a battle of wits, clumsiness, and more wine! Don't let poor Cece's fumbles get you down though, because beneath the awkwardness you find a strong, capable, hard working woman that makes a thoroughly lovable character. She's clever, demands what she deserves, and does what is needed. I love a strong woman, especially when they have weaknesses that bring them down to a human level. This was almost a one sitting book for me. Would have been, if there hadn't been a need to feed and take care of those pesky kids of mine hehe. As it was, I stayed up well after my bedtime (wine glass in hand) so that I could finish this heartwarming and hilarious ride. I can't wait to read more by this author!

Oh geeze.. Have you ever had a book grab you by your heart, made your eyes leak to the point where you could no longer see the words on the page/tablet? This book took me away from my reality, and into a world I could totally picture myself in. Hollyfield has painted a beautiful picture from her words, the drama was all things that could happen in real life, Life Next Door is a MUST read. She never fails to make my day a little brighter. Trent, even though he moves in the house next door he doesn’t realize what connections it has with Priscilla (CeCe). I loved Trent’s character, he is such a man in a lot of ways. He saves CeCe from herself. He is a macho man, who knows what he wants, and how to get it. I loved seeing his character built into something so protective. I think nothing can turn a woman on more than knowing a man will do everything in his power to protect her. Cece -sigh- I know what it is like to be clumsy. When you are short, you have a lot of short girl problems, including walking. I could totally relate to everything she was saying. Her character was about how angry at the world she was in, from an ex-husband running off with the neighbor, to trying to drink her life/emotions away with wine. I still don’t understand the addiction to wine, maybe I need to invest in some good stuff instead of the cheap. -ha!- Anyway, CeCe has a talent with sweets, and well.. her journey beings all the day Trent moves next door. Disclosure: I was gifted this book from the author. I did not have to do the review, and this review is my honest opinion. Thank you J.D. Hollyfield!

Wicked funny, sexy, and totally entertaining Favorite Quotes: “If I ever lost my eyesight, at least my drinking habits would survive.  My body is trained to sniff out wine.”   “We tried to be civil with one another, but having your soon-to-be-ex living next door with your trashy neighbor just didn’t allow for friendly banter.” “I am going to spend the rest of our lives loving you like you deserve to be loved.  And till our dying breath, I will still never be able to show you just how deeply that love runs for me.” “Then I’ll show you just how lucky of a girl you are by making you scream my name in languages you didn’t even know you could speak.” My Review: My first time reading Ms. Hollyfield’s work, and I want to stalk her, read every sentence she has ever scribbled, and tell her I loved this book from page one.  She is wicked funny and not afraid to make fun of anybody or anything.  Excellently crafted, entertaining, and keenly insightful about human nature and personal pain.  I chuckled aloud while reading and truly just adored it.  Our main character has a rough go of it for quite some time, and after divorcing her cheater ass of a husband, has become a bit of a shrew.  A funny, wine soaked, talented, bitter, angry, childish, snarky, shrew.  Understandable really, I would be her best friend and help her plot his demise while guzzling vino with her any day of the week.  When she gets a new neighbor and her world is up-ended, the fun really begins.  I will never look at an egg carton the same way.  I have since noticed that this book is part of a series, yet each are self-contained stories – and I LOVE that!  I have added this author to my watch list and have just put every one of her books on my TBR!
