She was only twenty-four, going home to Spain from time spent in England. Little did Luz know that returning to the land she loved would bring both her heart and her life such turmoil as she finds herself torn between two lovers. Once again, Hannah Fielding brings the passion of Spain to life while burnishing her tale with a feel of days gone past, taboos invoked and deep emotions pulled from the very souls of her characters. Leandro captured Luz’ heart the day she came home to Cadiz, but love with a gypsy is forbidden, regardless of what her heart says. How could she know her new employer, although a darkly reserved artist, would be Leandro’s look alike? Andrés de Calderón stirs the same heated imaginings in Luz that Leandro does, but is it safe to play with twin flames of fire? Follow these characters through the beauty of the land, the dangers, the intrigue and the innocence of a young woman whose passionate side has be put in overdrive. Hannah Fielding has succeeded once again in transporting me to another time and place where every emotion is shared, nothing is held back and the romance bleeds through every word as she paints her canvas with a wonderful tale. Luz Maria Cervantes de Rueda, the only child of Count Salvador Cervantes de Rueda was back in Spain. She'd been abroad studying for many years. Now it was time to go back home and begin her career. She was excited to be back with her family. Luz made sure she had plenty of time to ride on the beach and to swim. She'd missed this while in England. Her first days back, Luz happened on a gypsy man. He was perfection to her. Smiling to herself, she knew it was going to be a great summer. Vibrant and descriptive, this book entails the forbidden romance. The love story is a good one and really takes steps you didn't see coming. Ms. Fielding wrote in such a way you felt the mist of the sea. You could smell the fresh winds blowing. You'll feel as if you are on vacation while reading this one. I did find issues. This book is about 150 pages to long. It's dry because it doesn't have much in the way of dialogue. You get a fantastic idea of the area but not much about the people. I gave this one 3 cheers out of 5 because of the issues above. Not even the descriptions could save this read. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

A beautiful love story of passion and love, curses and family secrets. With beautiful descriptions and exotic locations the author weaves a heart wrenching tale of love and revenge. The author does a wonderful job of setting the tone of the book and showing the growing love between the characters as well as the hurt and betrayal that is felt. This story led me on an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it. It was hard to put down as there was so much going on between all of the different characters I had to know what would happen next. The romance was beautifully done and not over the top. The characters were real and had their own problems and failings that they had to deal with before they got their happy ending. I loved the build up to the romance and how the different feelings both good and bad were explored throughout the story. Luz was a strong heroine who was used to taking care of herself, but she wasn't afraid of strong feelings. I loved her inquisitive nature and that she didn't let anyone stand in her way of finding out the truth. Her relationship with both Leandro and Andres was intense and full of twists and turns. It was easy to get involved with the mystery of these two men and see how Luz could be torn about the two. This was an intense romance with a good dose of mystery that I would highly recommend.

Book exchanged for an honest review~ Luz Maria Cervantes de Rueda is freelance writer practicing as biographer. She's finally come home to Spain after spending years in England. Luz considers herself to be a free spirit but nothing compared to the gypsy. She meets Andres de Calderon who sparks deep seated desire something she's never felt for anyone before. There is something familiar about the young gypsy Leandro that makes him so different from Andres. Now Luz is torn between two men and can't choice either of them. Can Luz listen to her heart? Or will she choose the masquerade? Your answers await you in Masquerade. Interesting and unique story set in Spain in The 1970's. The story and characters are compelling, intriguing, real, raw, honest, and down to earth. Masquerade's have always intrigued me but to have it as running theme thorough out the whole book was something delicious to behold. Definitely looking forward to more of this author's work in the future.

Fielding paints her world for her audience, creating a picturesque and wonderful backdrop for her romantic and heartfelt story. At the same time, it was so much more than that. This was a complexly crafted and one of a kind to tale. There were some comical moments that broke up the intensity of the tale. I enjoyed how Fielding drew me into her story, creating a place for me to travel alongside her characters. The characters that Fielding creates take readers slightly back in the past and set the tone for the novel. Each was a wonderful and fantastic addition to the tale. Luz’s turmoil was appealing and so natural. The characters in this novel evoke real emotions while you’re reading their tales, making the story even more real. This was a sweet, lifelike novel that allows readers to escape reality into its pages. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
