About the Author

Pamela Foland grew up in Plano, Texas. Her love of animals started at a very young age. As a child, she was constantly bringing home stray dogs, and injured birds. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Business in 2005. As an adult, her love of animals has only grown stronger. Pamela has worked in numerous pet hotels as a dog trainer and is certified to teach pet first aid and CPR. All her experience with pets culminated four years ago when Pamela found and raised an abandoned litter of day-old kittens. Not able to part with any of these now-grown babies, Pamela enjoys going home to her "little munchkins" every night. This experience gave Pamela the inspiration for her series debut, Megan's Munchkins. Pamela will always have a special affinity with Megan because of their shared experiences. She truly believes there are few experiences in life more compelling than saving the life of another being.

Megan is learning that raising four kitten’s costs a lot of money. Her parents tell her that she needs to get a job or they will give her kittens away. So, Megan gets her first job pet sitting Mrs. Driscoll’s furry children. How much trouble could a lab, African parrot, and cat get into? Megan quickly learns quite a bit of trouble. The animals are going to stretch her pet care knowledge. Megan started out adopting four orphaned kittens. She decides that a pet sitting service would be the best way to make money. But she learns that there is way more to taking care of three different types of animals than four orphan kittens. I love this series since I have a huge animal lover. The book has a great story and I do feel bad for Megan and the issue with her friend Jill. But the best part was what poor Megan goes through with the animals. There are so many things that happen between having the owner around to not and all the different nuances that each animal has, like the cat not wanting to eat. This is a great story for kids and adults alike. It is a great way to teach kids about animals and all the hard work that goes into taking care of the ones your own to those that need sitting. I can’t wait to see what Megan gets into in the next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I chose to voluntarily read and post an honest review.

I really enjoyed “Megan’s Pet Sitting Adventure” by author Pamela Foland, even though younger/middle-grade books, isn’t usually one of my more preferred genres (don’t dislike it, just don’t generally gravitate). But I was drawn to the description because I love animals and have (or had) several myself. So I can relate to their shenanigans. I liked the first book Ms. Foland wrote as well, and think that younger readers will have fun reading about Megan’s Adventure even if they don’t have animals themselves… maybe even more so! I liked the descriptive, energetic writing style of the author so I dove on in and read the whole thing straight through! Megan (and Jill) were good characters to go through these adventures with, and experience their perspectives of their stories. I also liked that it actually had some depth and substance – lessons that everyone can relate to, young or old. While it’s not perfect (some typos, some parts of slow pacing) I enjoyed this book for being exactly what it is: A fun, creative, compassionate and relatable story appropriate for younger readers to learn more about caring for pets

this is the second book I’ve read from this author, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first! “Megan’s Pet Sitting Adventure” continues where the first one left off (although it can be read on its own) and we see Megan continuing to care for her “munchkins” (the 4 baby kittens), but now she has also added caring for 3 other pets as well, a dog, a cat and a bird, in order to earn money to take care of her kittens. I loved the characters and the energy Ms. Foland uses. Solid pacing throughout (never gets slow which is important for this age range) and the escapades with the animals are believable, not contrived or over the top for the sake of the story. I like that this one included her friend Jill as well, but I thought their relationship/dynamic felt a little odd… stiff almost. But a fun, entertaining and quick read.

I will give this book 5 stars! “Megan’s Pet Sitting Adventure” is a fun, enchanting reading experience that I finished in just under an hour, and it brought back some fond childhood memories of when I had pets (including a bird!). It’s been so long since I’ve read something with such true to life experiences and authentic lessons for children that didn’t feel super cliché or something I’ve read a dozen times before. So rare in this genre! Pamela Foland does a great job of balancing the story in an entertaining way, with some positive life lessons that children will enjoy, such as personal responsibility, compassion, caring for other, and facing unexpected challenges. And I like how the animals are characters as well, and contribute to the story in their own way. I can see this book being more for the Jr high crowd - might skew a bit young for the High Schoolers, but it is still really fun. Recommend.

Cute storyline, well-written and very authentic, “Megan’s Pet Sitting Adventure” from Pamela Foland is a fun, funny and imaginative read with a fresh twist on the normal “animal” book. This is a continuation of the first book after young Megan rescues some kittens and now has to find a way to pay for them. So she gets a job pet sitting for the Driscolls and their dog, cat and bird. But they prove to be more of a handful than Megan anticipated, and even though her friend Jill is “helping” she has problems of her own. So Megan must find a way to take care of things and be resourceful. A varied cast of colorful characters and plenty of hijinks throughout. There are some familiar tropes here, however, I feel Foland did a solid job of bringing in a fresh voice and making the story feel original—I didn’t feel like I’ve read this plot before. A few things, though, I thought at times there was sometimes too much narrative prose instead of dialogue. Not too bad, but some parts felt rushed and could have used more fleshing out, while a few others felt sort of needless… Really cute ending that makes you want to read more. Overall an engrossing and unexpectedly delightful read that is best suited for middle-grade/early YA crowd, but I can see older readers certainly enjoying it as well. Recommend.

4.5 stars "Megan’s Pet Sitting Adventure” by Pamela Foland is such an utterly charming story, one which I would have no hesitation having my children read. It is a “clean” book, suitable for most ages, but it is definitely geared toward the younger crowd (6-10, I’d say) who will enjoy to this creative tale that puts young Megan through some interesting pet sitting adventures. After finding and rescuing 4 kittens in the previous book (“Megan’s Munchkins”) she realizes that they will be more expensive than she thought, so in order to raise the money she begins pet sitting for other people. And it doesn’t go as smoothly as she thought it would, to say the least! Ms. Foland has a great way of writing in a believable manner with a voice that is authentically “young” (hard to fake.). This book will have cross-genre appeal as not only does it have a universal message that everyone can understand and appreciate, but it is a lot of fun to read. Could use better proofing, but it’s not too bad. Recommend.

I liked this book by Pamela Foland, but I didn’t love it. It has a cute storyline, and some valuable messages, but in a way it was just too simple for me. I felt like it needed higher stakes, more tension or consequences… things just happen, but it lacks any real drama… and even though Megan is supposed to be 13, this book reads like it is geared toward much younger due to the simple plot, yet Megan acts way older than a typical 13-year-old, and even talks ‘old’ (in my opinion. So in that regard this book was confusing to me, and it needs better proofreading. But the overall story is nice and I laughed a few times. Anyone who loves pets/animals will enjoy this story on some level, I just wish Ms. Foland would have gone deeper and taken more chances here. Suitable for ages 8-12.
