Milo in the Middle is about a dog who lives on a farm with his family: his Mommy, his Daddy, his older brother, and his baby sister. Something unique about Milo is that he is the middle child. As a middle child with an older brother and baby sister, sometimes Milo feels left out by his family.

While Milo in the Middle is fictional, its focus is on Milo being the middle child and how middle child syndrome can affect children within the family hierarchy.

The inspiration for Milo in the Middle came from multiple 'middle children' Katie, the author, has known throughout her life.
