About the Author

Hank Bruce is a writer, horticultural therapist, hunger activist, teacher and speaker. He is the former president of the Florida Chapter of the American Horticultural Therapy Association, and was presented their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. In 2001 he was given the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the American Horticultural Therapy Association. He and his wife Tomi Jill Folk are founders of the nonprofit Hunger Grow Away, Inc. and work to improve gardening conditions and food security in the American Southwest, and consult with organizations throughout the world. It is their shared passion to promote safe water and food security that helped bring this book into being.
Tomi Jill Folk has a Master's of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN and previously served as an ordained minister. She is currently a poet, photographer, author, storyteller, publisher and public speaker. Hank and Tomi live in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. They have 20 books in print, four of which have won awards. This is the first children's book they have created together.
Illustrator Miho Komatsu grew up in Japan, and completed her college and graduate degree work in the United States. She is a gifted pianist as well as exceptional artist. This is her first book, with the wonderfully rich drawings enhancing the story immensely. She was one busy woman, who drew the illustrations at the same time as she was completing her Master's Degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
Although the story is fiction, Moringa oleifera is very real, with the potential to save lives in many regions of the world. Hank and Tomi first learned of it while researching an earlier book, Global Gardening; and with Miho's illustrations, they would like to see the vital information in Miracle of the Moringa Tree shared in many nations.
