About the Author

Elaine L. Orr authors four mystery series, including the eleven-book Jolie Gentil cozy mystery series, set at the Jersey shore. Behind the Walls was a finalist for the 2014 Chanticleer Mystery and Mayhem Awards. The three-book River's Edge cozy mystery series is set in Iowa, and Demise of a Devious Neighbor was a 2017 Chanticleer finalist. The three-book Logland series takes place in small-town Illinois. The Family History Mysteries are set in Western Maryland's mountains. Elaine also writes plays and novellas, including the one-act, Common Ground, and novellas Falling Into Place and In the Shadow of Light. A novella, Biding Time, was one of five finalists in the National Press Club's first fiction contest, in 1993. Nonfiction includes Monett and Writing When Time is Scarce.

Elaine conducts presentations on publishing and other writing-related topics. A member of Sisters in Crime, Elaine grew up in Maryland and moved to the Midwest in 1994.

Editorial Reviews

This is the most delightful book I have read involving a ghost (or two). There's also a little romance, small town drama, old mystery, and family conflict. What's not to like? The third book in the series finds Digger more established in her business and relationships but still sometimes beset by uncertainty. Uncle Benjamin is a delightful character.

Mountain Rails of Old is excellent and unexpected. I love when I can't guess where a book is going and that is pretty standard with Elaine Orr's books. The over all mystery, the extra special element that Uncle Benjamin discovered, and the romance kept me deeply involved. My favorite of this series so far.
