Muddaughters

When Brenda and Briley discover their great-grandmother was a seer, Brenda begins to wonder if she has inherited the gift of sight herself. Her eagerness to implement this ability has her casting predictions for friends at a fortune-telling booth, but the ability loses its luster when she is confronted with visions of danger. Both girls soon realize that the recent move to Grandpa's farm presents more than the usual demands of attending a new school and making new friends.

While Briley is supportive of her sister, she finds herself resenting the fact that it's Brenda who has inherited great-grandma Ellen's gift. This resentment and the secrets Brenda expects her to keep put a strain on their sisterly bond. Still, at the heart of the story is a sense of family, both past and present.

Kay Stevens, lovingly known by many of her students as "Miss Kay," taught hundreds of elementary students over the course of her 29-year teaching career. Teaching her students to read and write, as well as appreciate children's literature, always gave her the greatest pleasure.
