Multifunctionality of the rural landscape
The book presents the results of an undergraduate project whose general aim was to identify and characterise the landscapes and multifunctional potential of small farms in the rural district of Itapé - Rio Claro (SP). To this end, the theoretical framework was based on four analytical elements: rural landscape / multifunctionality / external elements of agriculture / endogenous rural development (DINIZ, 1984, p.30 apud FERREIRA, p.50). In order to characterise the physical attributes of the neighbourhood's landscape, a survey was carried out of bibliographic and cartographic material, as well as rainfall data, which enabled the area's natural conditions to be identified. Through direct research with field observation and the application of questionnaires, an attempt was made to collect socio-economic data and also the tourist and landscape resources that exist in the area that make it possible to develop agricultural and/or non-agricultural activities as alternatives for employment and income. The aim was to understand the limitations and difficulties in terms of socio-economic aspects, infrastructure and the physical attributes of the landscape that affect the development of local families.
