Murder at Twin Beeches

After six generations of the Jenkins family living at Twin Beeches, a few skeletons in their closet could be expected. But not a body in the pantry.

The fundraiser for the Bucks County Historical Society at Louise Jenkins's ancestral estate is a sellout. The champagne corks barely pop before a guest finds the body in the pantry.

No one claims to know the victim; almost everyone accepts the theory that his death was drug related. Except Louise, who trusts intuition over facts. She persuades her daughter, Amelia Halliday, who was recently fired as an investigative reporter, to conduct her own inquiry.

Amelia finds a surprising sidekick in an irrepressible, brainy tweener, Winnie Miller, whose parents manage Louise's estate. With her murder journal and evidence box in tow, Winnie ferrets out clues in between studying physics and performing in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

As they discover connections to other crimes, tension builds between Amelia and the police investigator Tony Mardi, with whom she once had a relationship.

When another body turns up and a curious past incident at the estate resurfaces, Amelia realizes there is much more at stake than just solving the murder at Twin Beeches.

About the Author

As a child, Maria Leonhauser was certain that when she grew up she would live in the Langhorne Library in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. A bit of a reach given that it was, well, a library. But it was a second home to her where she met biographers, historians, and novelists through the pages of their books.

After studying English literature and theater in college, Maria crisscrossed the country as a reporter, editorial writer, and columnist. She covered the environment, politics, bad judges, good Samaritans, and rock ‘n’ roll ticket scalpers for The Bulletin in Philadelphia, The Sacramento Bee, Time, and People. She then segued into public relations, where she helped clients launch new products, handle crises, and stage events (a.k.a. throw big parties).

Murder at Twin Beeches is Maria's debut novel. She resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her character Amelia Halliday lives in Maria’s childhood library.
