About the Author

As a little girl I loved to create fantasy worlds and then give all my friends roles to play. Of course, I was always the heroine! Books have always been an escape for me and brought me so much pleasure, but it didn't occur to me that I could possibly be a writer for a living until I was in a career that was not my passion. One day, I decided I wanted to craft stories like the ones I loved, and with a great leap of faith I quit my day job and decided to try to make my dream come true. I discovered my passion, and I have never looked back. I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate that I have been able to make a career out of sharing the stories that are in my head! I write Scottish Medieval Romance, Regency Romance, and I have even written a Paranormal Romance book. And because I have the best readers in the world, I have hit the USA Today bestseller list several times.

I must say that this is my absolute favorite novel by Ms. Johnstone!!!! I adored it!!!! Here is what I learned from the 2 main characters: Jemma: Even when one is hurt by a past betrayals, you must learn to love again. Otherwise you are only punishing yourself!!! Phillip: Always remain true to yourself, do not try to be something you are not, because your true self will always outshine!!! Jemma is a very lively spirit who is beautifully complemented by Phillip. She does not need to be tame, she needs to be loved. Phillip knows that he wants to marry for the right reason (love and companionship), but he must determine is financial gain is more important. He knows that becoming something he is not, will never gain him the love he searches for. Of all the Rogue novels, I always liked Phillip's story the best! He deserved to be loved by the right woman, and Jemma is the one!! I thoroughly enjoy the Once Upon A Rogue Novels. Each novel can stand alone, but the stories are so fascinating, you will want to read the others. I especially like how Ms. Johnstone still uses the other characters from past novels within the story, so as a reader, you will not wonder what has happened to them. :D Everyone is within the same circle of friends, although each novel is vastly different!!

Jemma is a woman who has been duped by her first love. Intent on not wanting to ever make that mistake again, her goal is to earn enough money to be independent and have her own bakery, just like her mother. That's not easy when her grandfather has different plans. Lord Hawthorne, otherwise known as Philip, has a debt to fulfill and marriage to a wealthy woman is his only way out. But he feels he is too much of a gentleman to win a lady's heart, and is intent on changing his reputation to gain a wealthy wife. As the two of them work together, Jemma to foil her grandfather's plan, and Philip to turn himself into a rogue to be wanted by the ladies of the ton, the reader roots for the two of them to acknowledge their feelings for each other! This is a really great story. The characters are very likeable from the beginning. Ms. Johnstone's characters are always so full of life that you can imagine having tea and getting along famously with them. While this is book 3 in her Once Upon a Rogue series, it can be read as a standalone. Or as the first book of many you pick up to read by this author. ;)

My Enchanting Hoyden by Julie Johnstone Once Upon a Rogue Series Book Three Miss Jemma Adair never agreed with her mother's distrust of men, until she was burned herself by one of the scoundrels. Then learned her mother was right again when she and her sister are swept out of America and to England with their cold-hearted grandfather who just wants to marry them off. Her life would never be the same. Philip De Vere, Earl of Harthorne had to become like the men he hated, he needed to marry for money. He was a poet and dreamed of a marriage of love like his parents had before his father's death. Too bad the American fiery redhead didn't come with a dowry. Life as an aristocrat was not always so easy. They had lands and homes to keep up and heaven forbid they do anything for the ton to wag their tongues over. The author did a great job of bringing the characters to life, some to love and others to hate. If you enjoy knowing the background of characters from previous books, be sure to read the first two. Book one, My Fair Duchess, is Philip's sister's story. Book two, My Seductive Innocent is Scarsdale and Sophia who are mentioned often in this story. **Received from author for an honest review

#3 in "A Once Upon a Rogue" series, but each story is told as a stand alone. Although, I recommend reading the other two as well. A sweet Romantic story. A Cinderella type tale of romance, love and finding your HEA. I loved the H/H, who wouldn't, they were engaging, witty, challenging, charming and entertaining. Another well written tale that demonstrates Ms.Johnstone's talent in storytelling. An absolutely delightful tale that will at times have the reader laughing out loud, at other times overwhelmed with emotions. I adore Ms. Johnstone, her storytelling, her characters and her plots. She makes fans of Historical Romance want more, and reaching for another enchanting tale. Well done! Fans of Historical Romance are in for a real treat with "My Enchanting Hoyden". A delightful and entertaining tale! * Received for an honest review from the author * **Will be cross -posted on My Book Addiction Reviews dot com** Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Mild Reviewed by: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

I was taken away by this lovely romance. It's almost like a true Cinderella story. I loved the characters of Philip and Jemma, their story is so different than many I read. All the characters in the book are wonderful, from the stiff, up-right butler to the oh so proper and gruff Duke, who is really a kind and soft hearted grandfather in disguise. Of course I love revisiting with the other wonderful characters of the Once Upon a Rogue series and how they come together in this book. There were plenty of surprises in Philip and Jemma's story, and some adventure also. It was wonderful to finally get Philip's story, and get to know him more. He has overcome a lot, and has always put his families needs first over his own. His poetic soul and romantic heart are revealed in his search for a wife, one who can help restore his estates, and can awaken his heart. All that and more come to life in My Enchanting Hoyden. I highly recommend this book and all the books in this series. They are amazing stories.

Miss Jemma Adair and her twin sister, Anne, are 18-years-old and help their mother run the family bakery in New York. The girls’ father left their mother years ago. When their mother learns she has 60 days to fully pay for the loan on the bakery or they would have to vacate, the shock kills the already ill woman. The Duke of Rowan arrives from England and introduces himself to the girls as their mother’s father. He announces that he is taking them back to his estate in England where they will be tutored for six months and learn to be proper young ladies. Then, they will be introduced to the ton where husbands will be found for them. Jemma and Anne have always heard that their grandfather is a cold man who turned his back on his daughter when she ran off and married a man only wanting her dowry. It turns out that her grandfather never gave her the dowry after she defied him. In England, the girls comply as directed by their grandfather, yet Jemma is a stubborn young woman who professes that she does not want to marry, but instead to run her own bakery. Anne, on the other hand, is more amenable to marry. Although she is a very beautiful young woman, she is self-conscious due to a somewhat crippled leg she was born with. Philip DeVere, Earl of Harthorne, is facing financial difficulties from failed crops and the like and needs to marry a woman with a large dowry. He has the care of his mother as well and doesn’t want to worry her about their finances. Philip is a good man and detests the thought of having to marry for money. He would rather get a job but knows that it would upset his mother and he would also be looked down upon socially. When Jemma and Philip meet at a soiree, he is immediately smitten with her red hair and equally fiery personality. Philip is a man who loves to write poetry and feels that if he were more of a rake, he would attract some rich women. So, Jemma agrees to help him become a rake. The gentleman in him finds him rescuing her from the advances of rakes so the tables turn somewhat. We watch the relationship of Jemma and Philip grow from friendship into love but not without a lots of bumps in the road along the way. Once again, Ms. Johnstone has penned a delightful story of a hoyden and her loving gentleman that is certain to make readers sigh.

Heartwarming romance! Julie Johnstone is one of my favorite authors for historical romances, so when I noticed that her new story, My Enchanting Hoyden, was to be released, I had to read it. I was thrilled with the 3rd book in her Once Upon a Rogue series. It's the beautiful romantic story of Philip De Vere, Lord Harthorne and Miss Jemma Adair. Since the age of 12, Jemma had always liked and trusted William, the man she thought she would marry one day! Unfortunately, he betrays her and marries a rich lady! Now, desperate and nowhere to go, she needs the help of her grandfather, but, what he proposes to her, doesn't please her too much. What will she do? Meanwhile,Philip, is in a terrible need of money, so he has to find a rich lady to marry! This man is a poet with words, will he charm Jemma? She is not exactly the woman he is seeking, she is not a rich person. But love will send passion toward Jemma and Philip's friendship and their worlds will collide ever so strong. My Enchanting Hoyden is full of tenderness, humor, trust and love! This third story is very well written and fun to read!

My Enchanting Hoyden was a bit slower to get into than Julie Johnstone's other novels but It was by no means any less entertaining. Learning a new character took time and I loved her once I knew her. This book is also a standalone as are the others in this series, but the experience would be so much richer if you read it from the beginning. This series has been one of my favorites. The characters are fun and their personalities are definitely unique. Philip is the sweet poet surrounded by his rakish friends who have all found love but him. Now he must marry wealth or find himself destitute and his mother humiliated. One he could stand the other he couldn't stomach. Jemma on the other hand is strong willed and a little hoyden. She has strong opinions and one is that men are untrustworthy. When she is whisked to London by her Grandfather the Duke of Rowan whom she has never met but has heard all kinds of stories, she is ready to fight. Especially when he tells her he has her a suitor waiting for her. Angry sparks fly from Jemma as well as some attraction she refuses to acknowledge when she finally meets Philip. Jemma is determined to never marry. While Philip has come up with a hair brained scheme to find his match. They are determined to help each other. And with a bit of help from their friends everything is bound to work out as it should. I loved seeing characters from the previous books in this series. It always gives me a smile when I see characters I know. They are just as they were if a bit wiser and more in love. My Enchanting Hoyden is full of spontaneous poetry, hoydenish actions, and boundless attraction. The perfect recipe for a fun romance. I highly recommend this book as well as the others in this series if you hadn't already read them.
