My Fair Assassin by C.J. Anaya

It's not everyday a teenage girl is singled out for assassination.

Crysta has come to accept the fact that she is freakishly different. Her shocking white hair, creepy powers, and weird eating habits have prevented her from fitting in with her various foster families. Now that she is fully emancipated and providing for herself, she hopes that life will settle down and become something halfway normal.

Her hopes are shattered when a dangerous man with lethal intent breaks into her apartment, but this enticing stranger isn't what he seems. Is he here to kill her or protect her from others who will?

My Fair Assassin is a romantic love story with elements of paranormal and urban fantasy woven in for an entertaining read. Adults and teens alike will enjoy getting lost in the pages of Crysta's story as she finally comes to accept who she is...or rather what she is.

It was a fun read, but the next book isn't on the nook. That is just irradiating.

Reviewed by Liz Konkel for Readers' Favorite My Fair Assassin by C.J. Anaya is the first book in the Paranormal Misfits series. Crysta lives every day trying to fit in and make it to the next day. She dyes her naturally white hair so she'll look like a typical teenage girl. She even had herself emancipated to avoid any more foster families. Add on her weird ice abilities, her weird eating habits, and this weird trend of any man that she meets becoming stalkerish and obsessive; she's definitely not like everyone else. Then a man breaks into her apartment with the intent to kill her, but curiosity compels him to know more and to protect her. She thinks he's insane, but he insists that there's more to her than she thinks. C.J. Anaya creates a fantastic and unique take on the Fae myth! My Fair Assassin is funny, clever, witty, romantic, with a strong and real heroine in Crysta. She has a dark and tragic back story, but her insecurities make her easy to relate to, a real person with real issues. Her internal dialogue makes her instantly likable. The play with language is fun and delightful. Crysta uses specific phrases that are common to us, but to Jareth (the man that breaks into her apartment), it's strange and confusing. Their banter often leads to a humorous place, like him thinking the phrase “throwing in the towel” means to literally throw a towel. My Fair Assassin is a quick read that leaves you begging for more! The end is clearly just the beginning. I can't wait for the next book!

A young independent girl trying to make a future for herself...and a handsome assassin who is to stop her...what a premise for a story. Christa has always been different and she had to move out of her foster home to protect herself against all the men and boys she has encountered throughout her life. One day a handsome assassin pops into her apartment and tells her she is to die today. Having lost her job, having her roommate start eviction proceedings, and having classes for her audition to the ballet upcoming, Christa eggs him on and suddenly the story begins. It's a great discussion of life and loss, the value of being different and it is a quick fun read. I highly recommend it.

Crysta is a 17 year old girl that has had a rough start at life. Orphaned as a baby and bounced from foster home to foster home for being a little different she doesn't have the best opinion of herself. We meet her just as she is faced with a situation that is about to change her life forever. I absolutely adored this book! It was cute and funny from the very first page and I was so engrossed with the story I had read through almost the entire book without realizing it. Crysta's insecurities were similar to what I expect a lot of people deal with growing up and it was sweet to see how the right person helped her start to overcome them. Yes it was a little cheesy at parts but sometimes that makes for the best fairytales and in this case it worked very well. Plus I don't know how anyone couldn't love Jareth! This story left me smiling and I certainly hope to see many more books about these two. I'm my opinion My Fair Assassin is definitely recommended.

I'm not good at reviews so I'll just say what I want and leave it at that. I love it! I loved it so much, I pray there will be more, I need more! I've never had a main character react like I would, really everything she did I would have done if it was me. I also really liked how there is a romance to it but mostly focuses on her learning her new reality, with Nicholas being the cherry on top. Only one thing I was confused about- at one point people are angry with her and call her Georgeett? Or something like that when her name is Frankie, short for Francesca(I believe, they only said it once so I think that's right), well anyway it confused me. Freaking love this book though!
