Overview

The west belt of concentric canals, with its brick buildings, cobbled streets, arched bridges lit in the evening and the Dutch speeding by on bicycles is the best distinguishing feature of the capital of the Netherlands, one of the liveliest cities in the world, which offers an exciting cultural scene. With the paintings of the Dutch Masters on display in the renovated Rijksmuseum and the exclusive Van Gogh Museum, Museumplein is the pulsating cultural heart of Amsterdam. The city has the largest historical district in Europe, full of cafes facing the canals and bizarre boutiques. Wandering around historic Jordaan is like going back in time. The narrow streets are full of art galleries, antique shops, gardens, and charming bars and restaurants. You can't miss visiting Prinsengracht house where Anne Frank hid for two years. Finally, plan a few hours to get lost in the largest flea market in Europe, IJ-hallen.
