Reviewed by Christian Sia for Readers' Favorite A successful and very rich businessman, Rade Matheson is out to find the man who embezzled millions from one of his companies. But he stumbles on Dylan Adams, a woman who has just lost her fiancé, Michael, and still can’t move on. The moment he sets eyes on her, he knows he can’t forget her. He wants her badly, but is he ready to break an already broken heart? While Dylan can lead him to his stolen money, he knows he wants her more than anything else. Can Dylan overcome her fear of betrayal and follow her heart? Can anyone be what Michael had been to her — her whole world and someone she could do everything with? Next to Never is a sizzling romance in the Shattered Innocence Trilogy by A.L. Long. Next to Never is a delightful read and I completely enjoyed the characters. It opens with Dylan in a conversation with her best friend since grade school and she can’t make up her mind whether to go to the opening of a night club or not. Her life seems to have no color since the death of Michael. Her humanity comes out beautifully and the reader quickly understands her vulnerability, the void she feels within her, the pain of her loss and her anxiety. The romance is built around a strong story line, making it real and intriguing. No, it’s not just about the attraction, but also about characters that look and feel a lot like real people we encounter every day. A.L. Long is a great story teller and I loved the way this author takes readers into the hearts of the characters and the inner workings of their worlds. It is a delightful and hugely entertaining read.

Rade is rich and successful and out to find the man who embezzled millions from one of his companies. Dylan is a recently collage graduated and also lost her fiancé, she may be innocent but Rade plans to use her to find his money. This is a fast paced suspenseful story, with drama and suspense I enjoyed the story. It needs a bit of editing, however the story held my interest and I really liked Rade. Looking forward to reading more.

I was given an Advanced Review Copy in return for a honest review. I'm on the fence with this novel. Dylan Adams' grief is still fresh, after losing her fiancé, but attempts to carry on. For a well educated woman she wasn't very street smart - too naive, trusting and gullible. Also, she allowed Rade to take liberties, then other times would become defensive and outspoken over his arrogance and dominance. Sometimes, her feelings were hard to lock down. When I thought I understood what she wanted, she would change, making her unrelatable, at times. Businessman Rade Mathenson was an alpha, dominate male, with a plan to locate a thief. He played Dylan from the start, using her, and kept his secrets close. His sneakiness made me not like or trust his character. Still, there was a romance. Rade fell for Dylan, and in personal ways they had a connection too. The plot was developed, but the writing, told in third person, jumped from one perspective to another. I found this frustrating, because it disrupted the story's flow. There was also a cliffhanger. I'm interested to see if the characters develop more in the second book, so I'll probably read that one too. I would give this okay novel 3.5 stars. - Sarah

A Definite Must Read!! While trying to track down the man responsible for stealing millions of dollars from him Rade Matheson finds he's in over his head when he planned to get close to the woman whom he thought would lead him to his stolen money instead he finds himself captivated by the lovely Dylan Adams. she is heartbroken after the death of her fiancée and is trying to get her life back together when she meets the handsome and irresistible Rade Matheson and soon finds herself falling hard for the controlling alpha male but what Dylan does not know is that he is hiding secrets from her and eventually it will cost him to lose the only woman he has ever truly cared for because he betrayed her trust.
