Noah Webster
A biography of Noah Webster, the man who compiled Webster's Dictionary, one of the great dictionaries of all time. At the time of original publication in 1883, Harper's Monthly said this book "...is so spirited and enthralling ... and its pictures so teem with the bustle, the movement, and the activities of the real life of a bygone but most interesting age, that the reader lays down the book with a sigh of regret for its brevity." Horace Elisha Scudder (1838-1902) was a prominent man of letters, and for eight years he was editor of the Atlantic Monthly. Mr. Scudder was the leading advocate of introducing literature into the schools at a time when such advocacy was uphill work, and he edited a great number of literary classics for school use. He wrote a number of historical and biographical works of value.
