Jennie comes to these pages as a friend who loves you too much not to share the hard-earned truth she has discovered - we aren't enough and we can stop trying to prove that we are. When the noise of the world shouts at us to do more, be more, and have more, "Nothing to Prove" takes us on a journey that quiets the noise and reminds us that we don't need to be a god because God is already great at His job. Each chapter works through a retelling of the gospel of John, personal stories, and ends with an experience guide to help apply the stories and lessons to our own lives through discussion questions, additional scripture, and challenges. "You are not enough" might not be an easy message to hear, but "Nothing to Prove" reminds us that there is freedom and grace in accepting that we aren't enough - but God always is.

I am a type A, firstborn, do-it-all, perfectionistic mom of 4 who has been striving to prove myself my whole life. Actually, I should say I USED to be that – until about 5 years ago when I started having some health struggles in my life and could no longer do it all, much less do any it even remotely perfectly. I say this so you know that I know EXACTLY what it’s like to be on both sides of the coin. So hear me when I say…if you are feeling frazzled from striving so hard, from feeling like you need to prove your worth to others, from feeling like you’re sinking or drowning beneath the weight you carry…YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. The author’s style of writing is transparent enough you feel she is a friend who loves you enough to tell you like it is. She shares her own struggles and fears. She understands. I felt like she’d camped out in my head the last 5 years and then written a book about what all was going on in there. I especially enjoyed the sections she would write from the perspective of someone in the Bible, ex: the bride at the wedding in John 2, the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4. Also, there are questions at the end of each chapter to help you reflect and process what she talked about and how it relates to your own life and struggles. If you think you’re too busy to read this book, my guess is you probably REALLY need to read this book. There’s more to life than a to-do list, friend! I was given an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

A must-read for 2017. This book is going to change people’s lives! It is packed full of encouragement and inspiration, and the kind of book that you will want to read more than once. If you have ever struggled with feeling as though you are not enough—that somehow you don’t measure up to other people’s expectations or that God is disappointed in you—you need to read this book. Because the truth is that although we are not enough, God’s power is at work within us, so we can rest in Him. We just need to stay focused on the One who is all-powerful. “When you have nothing to protect and nothing to prove, God moves through you. When you have nothing to protect and nothing to prove, you know freedom.”

Great insights throughout this book on learning different ways of learning to accept oneself just as God created one to be. Knowing there is nothing one has to prove. God is the only one who truly can give truthful affirmation. (Great truth)He truly accept me flaws in all.

One of the most sacred invitations you can be called to is the story, the real story of where another has walked. Jennie Allen has simply & clearly laid out the steps she has journeyed. In her vulnerability and admitting where she does not have it all together, she shows how God, in His grace already knew that. He knows we all are limited, fallen and receives us in that place of “not enoughness.” Jennie models how naming, confessing and getting honest in the areas we are striving or numbing out, actually become the very places of intimacy and life. It is in those places of brutal honesty where Jesus can invade and show Himself to be sweeter and more satisfying than anything the world could offer. One of the strengths of this book, is Jennie invites you to the very words of Scripture. The living, breathing, active words of God intersecting in our current space and time bring life. She walks through the book of John, showing us Jesus’ way of love, truth and grace. Her current application, encouragement and call to our generation is rooted in the story of God. You will be stirred to pick up your Bible, digging deeper into the words that lead to hope, salvation and lasting change. This is a book that has many layers. You can devour it, move through it and then it beckons you to keep considering the Truth. It is experiential, offering time throughout to reflect and consider and will be a wonderful tool in the hands of women as they process together. There will be beautiful stories of the Lord using these very words to set women free; free to worship and live connected to the One who gives life abundantly. What a treasured voice Jennie is for our generation!

This is the best book I've read in awhile. My mom and I both read it and she is 56 and I am 20. It's a book for all ages as the message is timeless. Jennie Allen comes as a vulnerable friend in every page. You might want to find a friend to read this with because you're going to want to talk about it. This book was already changing my life in just the introduction. If all of her books are like this, I have a feeling I will be loving them all.

When you read this book, you will feel like you are sitting down with a friend. Jennie is so real and authentic with us as readers. She will encourage you to admit you are not enough, but Jesus is! I love that she is continually pointing the reader back to the Gospel. She encourages you continue to know and love Christ more and than watch and see how HE uses you! I believe this will be my book of the year for 2017! I want to give it everyone I know!

This book. It is one that has reiterated what the Lord has been teaching me for so long. In this book, Jennie is really blunt--in a good way. She speaks truth like, "Stop trying so hard," or "Trust God." She reminds the reader of the Gospel over and over again to make sure we understand that Christ has done it all on the cross. There is nothing left for us to prove. It's an absolute beautiful, life-changing, and freeing experience to know that God already loves us. We don't have to earn his love. Ahh!! This book is so good! In fact it's so good, that my co-workers have bought into the idea of a doing a book club with it! You just NEED to read it! :)

This is a must read for women and for our daughters. Gather your people and talk through this book. I just bought more copies for the women in my small group and dinner group and friends. This book will challenge you in so many ways and has already started changing the conversations I have with my friends. Jennie Allen seems to have it all, she's "made it", she's a remarkable and inspiring speaker, author, ministry leader, pastors wife, seminary graduate and mom. So sure - it's easy for her to say you have 'nothing to prove' because she's proved herself. But for the first time she shares some deeply personal truths in her life and you start to realize - she's just like me. She may have leaped the bar, but the bar keeps moving, keeps getting higher and higher and even for Jennie - it's exhausting. Sharing her journey through finding rest and drinking in grace fueled by gospel centered truth, she challenges you to dig deep, to be truly honest with ourselves and with God so that He can restore us. "Stop living for God and start living with God" is a favorite quote among many. Lastly - through the pages of this book, not only will Jennie Allen share her personal story and confessions, but she also provides guides throughout the book helping you find your rest. Step by step she asks reflection questions to get you to step into the stream, wade deeper and drink in deeply to find rest and freedom.

I needed this book, and I suspect you do too. I have read all of Jennie Allen's books and "Nothing to Prove" is my favorite and made the biggest change in my everyday life. Striving, it's something we all do. Wanting to prove to others or ourselves, or even to God, that we are enough for this life. In this book, Jennie shares her story of striving and breaks down the areas in life where we all strive and points to a better way: Jesus. Through various passages in the gospel of John, Jennie shows us how Jesus is enough for everyone and we are enough because of his love and in spite of our sin. He saved us on the cross and now we don't have to live thirsty, lonely, tired, passive, afraid, ashamed, or empty lives! Because of this book and Jennie's courage to share her struggle, I have renewed hope and trust in Jesus that He is enough for me. I want to read my Bible and know God more after reading this book. It is geared toward women but people of all ages will benefit from reading. Each chapter from section two has applications at the end to help you use what you just read in your actual life right now. Encouragement and conviction flow through this book. The book itself isn't life changing, but the God it points to is.

Have you ever felt like you were not good enough? I sure have. I have struggled for years with insecurities in many different parts of my life. Feeling like I wasn't good enough, like I had to prove myself yet still wasn't measuring up. I've struggled with this in my marriage, motherhood, homemaking, being a children's pastor, leading women's ministries, writing and more. I want to be enough, yet I'm just not. Jennie Allen tells us in her new book Nothing to Prove, But we are not enough. We are not God. We don't have all the answers, all the wisdom, all the strength, all the energy. We are finite sinful beings. And that is okay. That is so freeing! We don't have to be enough because God is! If we are striving to live for God we can have faith that He is enough and we can stop trying to prove ourselves. It's exhausting! Jennie also says in Nothing to Prove, He says, I am the bread of life. He is the bread of life...we are not. He says, I am the light of the world. He is the light...we are not. He says, I am the door. He is the door...we are not. He says, I am the way, the truth. We are not. He is enough. We are not. When we remember all that God is, when we truly get that into our heads and our hearts, we stop trying to prove ourselves and instead begin to do life with God letting Him be who He is.

I was so privileged to be on the launch team for this book. I couldn't put the book down. How could she get me so right? How did she know that's exactly what I was dealing with? So many women (and men) are stuck in bondage trying to prove ourselves. The message of this book is basic but deep, simple yet so incredibly challenging and oh so real. Don't we want freedom? I know I don't want to be trapped by thinking I need to please others. This book tackles this issue from every angle. Allen uses scripture and personal examples of struggling with this exact issue to explain the whys, why nots and how tos of "why we can stop trying so hard". This book was life changing for me. You need this book. Buy it and read it as soon as possible. ReAd it a 2nd or 3rd time. I know I will be reading it multiple times. Don't we want freedom in Christ?! This book will help you realize so much about yourself. You won't be disappointed.
