Overview

The first installment of the new decade, Now That's What I Call Music, Vol. 73 collects some of the hits that helped close out 2019. More subdued than usual collections, this volume features notable tracks from familiar faces like Maroon 5 (the wistful "Memories"), Taylor Swift (on the lush "Lover" with Shawn Mendes), Billie Eilish (the hypnotic "all the good girls go to hell"), and Selena Gomez (her first number one single, "Lose You to Love Me"). Hip-hop is represented by Post Malone's umpteenth smash "Circles," Travis Scott with his woozy "Highest in the Room," and NF's "Time." The energy briefly spikes with next wave divas Camila Cabello and Dua Lipa, but otherwise Now 73 remains more soothing than party-starting. On the back end "Now What's Next!" bonus section, notable highlights include budding producer Y2K's viral hit "Lalala" with bbno$, and rap crew Earthgang and Tiana Major9 with "Collide." ~ Neil Z.
