Cal is driven by an implacable force that some might call fate to a remote and forbidding desert mountain in the southwestern United States, near the border with Mexico. Temperatures are fierce, water is scarce. He is led through an enigmatic journey of the soul as he remembers the life he once had with Gayle. Tenderly, the intricacies of Cal and Gayle's love for one another are revealed. Cal's quest is the quest of Everyman, a quest that speaks to the endurance of the human spirit in the face of great adversity transcending reality and blurring the perceived line between life and death. Cal finds redemption in the most remarkable place. On Anvil explores the hidden topography of desire, the shadowy terrain that may well harbor the seeds of our undoing, as well as those of our salvation.
