I got hooked quickly in the first book of this series and while the author wrapped it up nicely, she introduced a new character and a new twist to lead to the next story. And I enjoyed this one every bit as much. Old characters dip into and out of the action as they all work together in one way or another. The ladies may play the part of a damsel in distress, but they don’t wait for one of the sexy alpha’s to rescue them. They get right in the thick of things. And the part I’m sure you are waiting for. The dogs! Not only can Katie give us genuine human characters, she also does this with her four legged ones. you’ll fall in love with each one. You’ll fear for their lives as much as their human partners. They are working dogs, trained for specific duties and highly intelligent, yet also gentle, loving, and up to some silly antics. A series like this is made to order for me. I met all of the character’s in the first book and each one that comes after has a secondary character step up and have their own story. Suspense, romance and sharp and witty dialogue keep the story moving at a fast clip. I’d love to this made into a movie or series. there would never be a dull moment. Callie Beaulieu does such a great job narrating. I’m happy to see she will continue to do this series. I’ve come to recognize her vocalizations for the characters and feel comfortable with her telling their stories.

K9 units, hot guys, bad guys, a feisty woman, drama, suspense, romance, what more could a reader want in a romantic suspense book? "On The Chase" has all of this and more. There were really two bad guys in this one, as one was after Hugh, while the other one had Grace in his sights. Grace was a woman on the run, but wow did she have grit and wasn't a woman to give up easily. Hugh, being part of the K9 unit, was not only an injured cop, but just had a little difficulty staying on medical leave much to the dismay of his superiors. It didn't hurt that he was one of the hot guys as well. Hugh was Ying to Grace's Yang. One of the things I loved best about this book was Lexi, Hugh's K9 police dog. Lexi's role is interwoven in every part of this great read. The action is non stop without missing any details in giving the reader a complete picture of both storylines that come together for a complete story of Hugh, Grace, and Lexi getting their HEA. I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for gifting me "On The Chase". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 5 Stars!

The story pretty much just focuses on Grace as she tries to settle in to her new life. She had to ditch her college degree, her job, her friends, and ultimately start over again. So, it goes without saying that she’s a little bitter by her circumstance. She’s very prideful and isn’t too thrilled with her new identity or the fact that she went from having a college degree to a GED. However, she doesn’t really get to dwell on it for too long, what with the nosy cop and the multiple attempts on her life. Someone is out for Grace and it would appear that they may have found her. Cars are blowing up, balconies are collapsing, and she’s dodging bullets left and right. Pretty soon that nosy cop is the only person that makes her feel safe. Every time there’s an attack, he’s always there to save her. Which, doesn’t make his partners or his LT very happy with him. Especially since he’s on medical leave for getting shot in the previous book. Regardless of the amount of times he ends up in the hospital though, he’s always got a smile and something smart-ass to say. I really liked that the story didn’t just focus on Hugh and Grace though. We got to see Jules and the kids a lot in this book since Grace is living with them. And with Jules and the kids comes the surly officer Theo. It was really great getting to see everyone. Jules has gone from the newbie in town, to taking Grace under her wing like a champ. It wasn’t that long ago that she was in Grace’s shoes. So, it was great getting to see her and the kids step up and help someone in need. We also got to see a bit more of Otto, Theo and Hugh’s friend/co-worker. He pops into the kennel to check in on and work with a dog there. We still don’t know much about him, or the dog, but I’m really hoping that they are the next two up to bat. On The Chase is a good solid read. I enjoyed Hugh’s easy banter and the fact that he could make those around him loosen up with his annoying ways of pestering. I did find myself getting a little bored about three quarters of the way through. Maybe it was because it seemed like every time we turned around something was blowing up or someone was shooting at Hugh and Grace. I don’t know. I still found the story enjoyable and will continue on in the series. Like I said, I’m really hoping that Otto is next and I can’t wait to see what the dog’s story is and why it’s in the kennel.

On the Chase is the second book in Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series. It picks up right where the first book, Run to Ground leaves off. It can technically be read as a standalone but I think that you would feel more connected to the main characters and the town if you read the series from the beginning. As with the first book, the heroine has escaped to the Colorado Rockies to avoid being killed. Kaylee Ramay leaves her perfect life behind as well as her name. She becomes Grace Robinson and moves in with Jules, the heroine from Run to Ground. Grace also can’t seem to stay away from the inquisitive eye of K9 Officer Hugh Murdoch and his dog Lexie. From the moment they meet, Grace and Hugh take shots at each other like kids on a playground. That banter eventually turns into a burning desire for each other. The problem is that someone keeps trying to kill Hugh, and Grace thinks it’s because of her. Hugh isn’t the type to back down from a fight although he is currently on medical leave due to a gunshot wound to his leg. Of course, he and Grace will get into several life-threatening situations before it’s all over. Hugh and Grace are perfect for each other in the strangest way. They get under each other’s skin. Hugh doesn’t hesitate to risk his life for Grace and she is overwhelmed by that considering the short time that they have known each other. In addition, it’s heartwarming how the other members of the K9 Unit band together to help. Grace easily finds an instant family and feelings that she didn’t expect to have. Their attraction is intense and so is a lot of the action. I truly enjoyed On the Chase. It was better than the first. I am looking forward to the third book, Survive the Night. I just hope that Katie Ruggle can top herself again. **Received a copy from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed.**

I liked this book. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely entertaining. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Run to Ground, when I read it a few months ago so I was pretty excited to read Hugh's story. It was a pretty fast read for me since I had a rather hard time actually setting the book aside. The book opens with Kaylee in her old life. She witnesses a horrifying crime and becomes a target herself. In order to stay safe, she changes her identity and starts all over. Kaylee, or Grace as she is now called, moves in with Jules and her four siblings. I was really happy to see all of the wonderful characters from the first book of the series having such an important role in this book. Grace is slow to adjust to her new life because she is living in constant fear. Hugh is on leave as he recovers from a bullet wound and he is driving everyone crazy. He keeps showing up and getting involved in things when he is supposed to be resting. He thinks that Grace is being completely honest from the first moment he meets her. He becomes determined to find out what her real story is. So like I said earlier this book wasn't perfect. Hugh crossed a few lines that kind of bothered me. It was like the man had no boundaries. A locked door....no problem, because he would find a way to get in anyway. This kind of behavior seemed to happen quite a bit at the beginning of the book but did lessen as the story progressed. I think that Grace let him off a little too easy a couple of times in the book. I did like Grace and Hugh together. Grace is honest with Hugh about her past as soon as it becomes a safety issue and then they really do start to become a team. There were some pretty exciting scenes in the book that really had my pulse pounding. They did have great chemistry with each other and I really enjoyed their banter. I would recommend this book to others. I enjoyed this action packed romance with wonderful chemistry between the characters. I am looking forward to reading more in the great series from Katie Ruggle very soon. I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

I am loving this series! "I'm glad you'll be there. I wish you were there when I called him. You make me brave." His face softened. "You're already brave. I just remind you of that fact." Le sigh... Okay, so I'm not yet finished with book one ( Run to Ground )--but I'm loving it so far, and this one? OMG awesomeness. Hugh is obnoxiously adorable (and no, prior to this I wouldn't have thought that was a "thing" either, but trust me, it is) and Kaylee/Grace is the perfect heroine for him. Really, that quote up there sums it up for both of them--they are great on their own, but together they make each other even better. Jules, her siblings, Theo, and Otto (plus various animals) all play pretty big roles here, and the last page leaves us with a pretty big teaser for the next book ( Survive the Night --Otto's book; woot!) Can't wait! Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

On The Chase by Katie Ruggle is the 2nd book in her Rocky Mountain K9 UnitTrilogy. I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, and was pleasantly surprised that On The Chase was even better. Kaylee, our heroine, is on the run after attending a dinner with her boyfriend. When she steps away to find the ladies room, she hears calls for help and steps into a situation she was not meant to see. With her boyfriend’s Uncle trying to kill her, she runs to the Colorado mountains to hide with our previous book heroine. Hugh Murdoch, whom we met in book 1, is a cop and friend of Theo (last book hero). Hugh was suspicious of Theo’s Julie, and now that he meets Grace, he is determined to find out what she is hiding. Hugh, who was on leave from work due to an injury, followed Grace everywhere; trying to learn what she is hiding, and to act on his attraction to her. Hugh also has someone trying to kill him, to stop him from a drug bust. Grace and Hugh are in the middle of a few attacks, which Grace thinks is meant for her, but Hugh insists it is the drug lord. When Hugh gets hurt, Grace will quickly tell Hugh and Theo the truth about who is trying to find her. They both know how powerful this man is, and are determined to help Grace. As Hugh protects Grace, their romance will become sizzling. I was actually surprised that I did like Hugh and Grace together, though he was annoying early on. I also liked how Julie would help Grace, knowing what it is like to be on the run. Lexi was Hugh’s K-9 dog, and I enjoyed Lexi’s scenes, as well as seeing Viggy again. The story was very suspenseful from the start, with a lot of action all the way through. The last ¼ of the book had me holding my breath, as Grace’s life was on the line twice and no one knew where she was. Grace did turn out to be a fantastic heroine, who managed to fight her way to survival. On the Chase is another suspenseful story in this trilogy, and I look forward to reading the final book. Katie Ruggle has written a great story, wonderful couple, and exciting action packed throughout. I suggest you start with the first book, Run to Ground.

Intrigue in the first few pages draws us into this story and keeps us invested in seeing the outcome. I had trouble connecting with Grace & Hugh at first because they almost seemed to be having a childish "I know you are, but what am I" back and forth bickering between them, but after they truly started having feelings for each other, the chemistry between them became believable and drew me in. Looking forward to more in the series! Kaylee Ramay can't believe what her life has become! Because of witnessing something she wasn't supposed to see, she's now on the run for her life in hopes that the bad guys won't track her down and silence her for good. Now Grace Robinson, she is trying to keep a low profile as a kennel employee, but one particular guy isn't giving up on getting to know who she really is! K-9 Officer Hugh Murdoch might be on mandatory leave after an act of heroism got him injured, but that doesn't stop him from zeroing in on the suspicious stranger in town ... and it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous! When incidents start happening, Grace is left with no option but the spill her secrets to Hugh in hopes that he can keep everyone safe ... but when more is going on than meets the eye, they could all be in for the run of their life!

My Review: I have really been loving Katie Ruggle's books this year and have anxiously been awaiting On the Chase. The beginning of this book when we met Kaylee was a little intense, my heart was definitely pounding. Even with that frightening introduction, I didn't really connect with Kaylee. Hugh on the other hand was a fun character, even with his quirks and flaws. The banter and arguments between the characters kept up a nice flow throughout the book and really broke up the action in this one. And there was a lot of action, the life threatening moments almost never let up so the pages kept turning quickly. I am still really partial to Theo, Jules and the kids so I am glad that they were in this book quite a bit as well. It was a fast read that will have your heart racing with the danger and tension but will also have you laughing at the banter. My Rating: I didn't connect with this book quite as much as the previous book but it was still a page turner and entertaining read. I give this one a rating of Three Paws and a Stump Wag.

Kaylee’s life is turned upside down in one night when she stumbles upon a gruesome scene. Afraid for her life she flees California with the help of Mr. Espinosa, the mysterious character who helped Jules (from book one) in the last book. Kaylee takes on the identity of Grace Robinson, posing as Jules’ old high-school friend. She attempts to stay low, but that’s easier said than done in the small town of Monroe, Colorado. Especially, when nosey cop Hugh takes an avid interest in her. He teases, and annoys, but he also makes Grace laugh and forget the seriously scary situation she’s landed in. On the Chase was a non-stop thrill-ride! I felt like once Grace and Hugh escaped a close brush with death, another would be upon the them. It’s a mystery whether the threat comes from someone after Grace or Hugh, either is possible. Hugh wants Grace and Grace (begrudgingly) wants Hugh so of course, they stick together to figure it out. Their bickering was pretty funny, you can’t help but laugh when Hugh’s around. Even better, their banter would often turn heated: as in sparks flying, hungry kisses, and more! Loving this series!

This is the 2nd book in this series and I recommend reading the first one so you understand some of the things that are said and referred to from the previous book. This one covers the partner of Theo from first book, Hugh and Kaylee (who is referred to at the end of the first book). I really liked Hugh from the first one and couldn't wait to read his book. And I have to say this book didn't disappoint! Hugh is still recovering after being hurt previously and is bored out of his mind. Enter "Grace", who has just come to town to stay with Jules (from the first book-this is why I say read the first one LOL!). She needs to hide out after witnessing something absolutely horrific. This book had me hooked from the first. It made me laugh at so many parts reading the way they go back and forth. Hugh is protective, and just an all around nice guy. Kaylee needs that in her life, especially now! And then you throw the kids into that mix? I loved every bit of this book. It kept me completely interested from start to finish! I can't wait to read Otto's story!! Along with hoping Jules (and her family) can someday stop looking over their shoulders!

Review: ON THE CHASE (Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit) by Katie Ruggle Publication Date: September 5, 2017 Genre: Romantic Suspense Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated 5 Stars I love Katie Ruggle’s stories, the characters are fun and realistic no matter what situation they’re in. Hugh is, of course, handsome, and he has a sense of humor that is not over the top. I wasn’t sure about Kaylee at first, but she grew on me fast. Together they made a fun couple to read about. It was a fast-paced, action filled suspense, with enough romantic tension to keep me turning the pages for more. I’m liking this new series. *Review copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ~*~*~*~

This was pretty entertaining. I really enjoy books that have good banter between the main couple. It's more of the frustration, flirty banter if that makes sense. It had me laughing a lot. In book one, Jules needed to save her siblings from her evil stepmom. She kidnaps them and has a "guy" create a whole new identity for them all and moves them to a new location where she falls in love with Theo, a cop. Theo and his partner, Hugh know Jules is hiding something, but Theo is so in love with her, he decides to not look into her past. At the end of book 1, Jules gets a phone call from the "guy" to let her know he's sending a woman to her who needs a new start. In this second book, we get Grace, aka Kaylee's story. She has found out the guy she's dating is related to a very evil man and she has to run fast and far away for her safety. This brings her to Colorado living with Jules and her 4 younger siblings. Theo and Hugh take one look at Grace and know she is hiding something as well, only this time Theo wants to know what it is in fear of her bringing danger to Jules and the kids. When Hugh suggest looking into her, Theo agrees. This is where it got very entertaining. Hugh practically stalks Grace and interrogates her but he tries to do it subtly. It wasn't so subtle and Graces reactions were comical. When someone shoots at Hugh and Grace, she fears her past has found her and confides to Hugh and Theo about her past, but they soon learn it's Hugh who is in danger. There is a lot going on in this book, between Jules and Theo's continued story, Hugh and Grace's story and the danger that seem to be stalking them around every corner. Instead of overwhelming the reader, it made for a pretty fast pace with enough romance and laughable moments to keep me entertained. I liked book one, but I liked this one even more. I'm looking forward to book 3! ARC provided by NetGalley.

I really enjoyed On the Chase the second in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series. The author has a way of making the most irritating traits endearing. In the first book the hero is a total grump. In this book our hero always has something to say; a quip, a joke, a pithy remark. The only time he is serious is when he is working. But you can’t help but love his upbeat attitude and he truly is a hero. I loved that the author gave Hugh and Grace time to fall for each other. Okay being shot and beat up is usually enough to get a guy to keep it in his pants but I think if Grace had been up for it Hugh would have made it happen. I fell for these characters head over heels and think you will too.

I was looking forward to this book after reading the synopsis. Somehow, I ended up disappointed. The beginning of the story was a little slow and I never got into the book. I also couldn’t empathize with the main female character, Kaylee/Grace. At times I found her to be a whiner or an adolescent. Hugh, the K-9 cop, currently recovering from an injury, might have been handsome, and strong, but I found his dialogue childish on occasion. More apt for a teenager than an adult. The romance was just ok and the plot a bit weak. I found myself skipping pages . Sadly, not one that I would recommend. Only because writing a book is not an easy endeavor, I will give the book a 3 star, for effort. Otherwise, it would have been a 2 star. I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

There she becomes Grace, a dog kennel worker trying to avoid the dangerously attractive K-9 Officer Hugh Murdoch. When an accident leaves Hugh and his K-9 partner, Lexi, on desk duty, both are anxious for Hugh to heal. Until then, the highlight of his day is teasing the beautiful but mysterious new kennel employee. Their simmering attraction fuels a passionate kiss—interrupted by a sniper’s bullet. With targets on both of their backs, Grace and Hugh will do whatever it takes to stay alive…not realizing the most dangerous threat of all is hiding right in front of their noses. Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series: Run to Ground (Book 1) On the Chase (Book 2) My Thoughts Although I missed out on book 1 in this new series, Run to Ground, am going to say that ever since read books of the authors previous action packed series, Search and Rescue am very happy to have been able to grab and read a review copy of On the Chase to catch up on this new series as very much enjoyed the Monroe Colorado setting we are once again taken back to. As said before I greatly enjoyed my return to small town of Monroe Colorado, it has its own special appeal for a couple of reasons. One reason is its lack of sophistication, instead the appeal lies in the rugged beauty of nature rather than fancy restaurants or other elements associated with living in a city. The icing on the cake though was Grace and Hugh, they were like oil and water which turned into a give and take banter which in turn became a very natural romance for the pair. As much as I missed having Hugh and K-9 partner Lexi do their job as part of the story the pair of them still managed to have some moments here and there that were pretty interesting. Not the least of which happens unexpectedly when Hugh’s home is the setting. Kaylee is an example of someone who is unlucky enough to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, she was lucky to escape with only bad memories of the experience to take with her into hiding. Sadly this dynamic duo seem to attract trouble over and over, with the final outcome a happy one rather than what could have turned out to be their respective last hurrahs. Hope to catch book three for review as am totally caught up in the cast of characters and would love to see who ends up in Monroe Colorado next and why.
