Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite Is it murder if you’re protecting your daughter? The day begins like any other, a typical Monday morning. Jeff Blake leaves for work as usual to the investment brokerage firm of Avian Financial Services in downtown Fairfield, where he works as an investment advisor. Unfortunately, the arrival of a new client changes everything. Mr. Clint Parkens, Director of Child Protective Services for Grover County, threatens to take Jeff’s three-year-old daughter Ashley into protective custody unless he provides an insider trading advantage for Parkens’ investments. Over My Dead Body by Bruce A. Borders is a fast paced, dramatic and edgy story about how one can abuse the power they have in a legal system which is supposed to be used for the good of the people. Borders’ writing style is clear cut, making the narrative highly readable and engaging from the beginning until the end. Readers would find it easy to immerse themselves in the story. It’s also effortless to relate to the characters as they are well developed. I found it hard to stop reading as I really wanted to know what would happen next. Over My Dead Body is a parent’s worst nightmare. The fact that it could happen in the real world, since greed and corruption can make anyone do the unthinkable, is simply frightening. The premise of the story is a valid, thought provoking, although daunting view of what type of crime can happen (perhaps, it already did) in the legal system. On the whole, this is a solid read.

As a parent, Over My Dead Body really got me thinking.  The idea that CPS could possibly take my child away--even though I had done absolutely nothing  wrong is beyond frightening!  Bruce Borders' tale of of Jeff Blake's journey to protect his family is as enjoyable as it is fast-moving.  Not only is this book very well written, but the characters and story held my interest.  I highly recommend this book and I'm looking forward to reading other works by this author in the future.

Author Bruce A. Borders captured my attention in Over My Dead Body immediately with Jeff Blake being on the receiving end of a barrage of bullets on the first page. "And What are you going to do?" the worried woman asked nervously. "You can't stop them all. Those are cops!" Jeff Blake is threatened by the head of CPS that if he doesn't give him the inside information on investment trading, he will have Blake's three-year-old daughter removed from the home. Suddenly two police officers are dead along with a CPS worker. This story is every parent's nightmare. How easy it would be for someone to falsify records and suddenly your child is about to be taken away from you. Mr. Borders takes on the moral dilemma of what a parent might do to save their child from being forcibly removed from its home when they know the charges are false. I have no idea what I would do had I been placed in the same position of character Jeff Blake. I don't think I could just sit back and allow my child to be taken from me. The book is well written and the characters engaging. This book was a fast read for me. I just couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what happened in the next chapter and the chapter after that. I look forward to reading more of Mr. Border's books.

This book shows our justice system can work While I have my doubts that this would have played out the same way in real life, I would hope I am wrong. The book was well written and I will read more by this author.
