Pantone, the worldwide color authority, invites you on a rich visual tour of 100 transformative years. From the Pale Gold (15-0927 TPX) and Almost Mauve (12-2103 TPX) of the 1900 Universal Exposition in Paris to the Rust (18-1248 TPX) and Midnight Navy (19-4110 TPX) of the countdown to the Millennium, the 20th century brimmed with color. Longtime Pantone collaborators and color gurus Leatrice Eiseman and Keith Recker identify more than 200 touchstone works of art, products, d cor, and fashion, and carefully match them with 80 different official PANTONE color palettes to reveal the trends, radical shifts, and resurgences of various hues. This vibrant volume takes the social temperature of our recent history with the panache that is uniquely Pantone.

As an architect with tendencies toward the modern aesthetic I have been trained to view color as a strange world inhabited by interior and graphic designers. I've been on a hunt for a good compendium to help my occasional forays outside the world of black and white. Most of the literature I came across was geared towards marketing and graphic design. I took pleasure in the emotional and cultural context that this book gives to color. I saw this book at Chronicle books for $40 and have kept it on my wish list. When I was next in B+N I was disappointed that it wasn't in stock but pleased that I could pay for it in store and have it delivered to me for only $27. Made it worth the 3-4 day wait.
This book is a pleasure to behold, very well researched, and highly entertaining. I love to look at the palettes and the photographs. After a long week of work, sitting with this book is like a trip to a museum, a nice dream, or a trip in time (with my feet up, besides) :) :) :)
