Overview

Perfect Rhythm by Jae

Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown.

In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn’t impressed by Leo’s fame at all. That isn’t the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She’s also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.

Can the tentative friendship between a burned-out pop star and a woman not interested in sex develop into something more despite their diverse expectations?

A lesbian romance about seeking the perfect rhythm between two very different people—and finding happiness where they least expect it.

About the Author

Jae grew up amidst the vineyards of southern Germany. She spent her childhood with her nose buried in a book, earning her the nickname "professor." The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven. For the last seven years, she has been writing mostly in English. She works as a psychologist. When she's not writing, she likes to spend her time reading, indulging her ice cream and office supply addiction, and watching way too many crime shows.

I've enjoyed Jae's books for quite some time now and was very pleased with this one too. The characters and story touched on a subject matter I was unfamiliar with until now. Jae's story was heart warming, rivetting, compassionate, and romantic. Well done! Bravo!

Jenna-Leo-Blake, a musician who couldn't get away from her hometown soon enough. She has everything she has always wanted. Lots of fans, fame, awards and money. But she doesn't have love. Holly Drummond, a nurse who loves living in the same small town. She is happy with her family, her friends and her job. But she doesn't have love. They have a bad beginning but work it out and start getting along. There is something in Holly that makes her run away from attachment, commitment, love. She thinks her asexuality will lead to a broken heart, hers. They will need to find the Perfect Rhythm to be together and happy. When I started reading the book I thought “I don't get it, I don't understand it. How is it possible?. It won't work for me”. I like happy endings but I didn't have it with me here. As I was reading, I thought “well, this should be interesting, how Jae makes this work” but as I continued reading I totally changed my mind. This story has helped me understand that not everything is black or white but a wide spectrum of colours. It has given me a different view of sexuality Both are strong, endearing, loving characters. They fight for what they believe in. The story is written with such sensitivity and clarity that you forget about Holly's special circumstance (I would have called it “issue” at the beginning but it's not anything like that at all). It's the first book I have read with one of the characters being like Holly but I am not disappointed at all. On the contrary, if there were more like this, people would be more understanding. I know I am, or, at least, try. The love moment is one of the most endearing and overwhelming scenes I have read lately. I guess there is always a first time for everything and this is my first time on this kind of stories. I hope is not the last one. And now I am just waiting to have my paperback because I want to keep it as a little treasure. I like Jae's books, not only because of the stories but because her writing is excellent. I don't know if it's due to her former job that she knows and can develop characters so well and with such intense personalities. But for whatever reason, she expresses sensibility, strength, determination, passion, love, in every character and every book.

Intense and well developed This is the first time I've read one of Jae's works, but it definitely will not be the last. It's a great story, and I dove right in and became entranced by the characters. Leo is not your stereotypical Lesbian, and neither is Holly for that matter, but Holly is one thing that Leo isn't, and that's asexual. This story can be raw and gritty, without being over dramatic or focusing on less important things. There is a large hurdle of a relationship between the two, and a journey for both of them. It's intense and a very well developed story line, and I like how the relationship evolved. The intensity of their desires or lack of desires played a big part in their relationship, and in some areas, the pace was slow and others, it seemed to be too fast. I did like the story, and felt it was too bad that people have to be labeled based on their sexuality, but the story works.
