Overview

A little frog can't say "ribbit" like other frogs. When he tries, he just squeaks. He is a very sad frog and doesn't like his nickname, "Squeaky." A bigger frog named Freddie comes to help. The story illustrates that it is very satisfying to help a friend, and that working together is a good way to solve problems. Promoting teamwork and perseverance are valuable personal qualities.

About the Author

Dr. R. Kenneth Teas is a retired university professor. When his four children were preschoolers, he created several stories involving numerous critters that live on the edge of an imaginary Butterfly Lake. The stories feature critters who face various problems that require the help of their critter friends. Some of the characters are Sammy, Hammy and Jammy, three chipmunks who are central characters in most of the stories, a prairie dog named Mortamer Wisp who is a problem-solving genius, Billy the bluebird who has trouble flying, Debra the duck who manages a nest full of hatchlings, Squeaky the frog who has a problem saying “ribbit,” Excitement, a squirrel who cannot settle down, and Right Roger, a large bear who helps out in problematic situations. Dr. Teas’ oldest daughter, Sarah Calaway, is the producer of the books. Sümeyye Demir is the illustrator.
