This edition has been revised and extended to reflect important shifts terror. World states are identified as engaging in or supporting acts of in the focus and style of much terrorism since the first edition was published in 1982. As governments have become more adept at dealing with sieges and hijackings, terrorists have moved toward increased use of bombings and shootings. The international dimension of terrorism has also increased, as well as the involvement of states in terrorism in pursuance of their immediate foreign policy goals.
