Description: This is a primer for those uninitiated in the field of plastic reconstruction of defects of the body resulting from surgery for cancer. It introduces the various reconstructive techniques to physicians whose care of patients overlaps with that of the plastic surgeon.
Purpose: The purpose is to be a thumbnail reference for reconstructive options for specific areas of the body affected by disease. It serves to familiarize the nonsurgeon with a few of the surgical options available for repairing post-excisional cancer defects of the body. For the neophyte, this book will provide some insight into the thought process behind a reconstructive course of action.
Audience: The book is aimed at oncologists, both medical and surgical, whether students, residents, or practicing physicians. The authors, for the most part, are plastic surgeons who have had experience reconstructing specific parts of the body after cancer removal.
Features: A general review of the reconstructive process begins the book. The 14 chapters and over 300 color illustrations cover breast reconstruction options and timing, specific anatomical areas of reconstruction including skin, lip-cheek-scalp, bony aspects of the face and skull, throat and neck, nose, extremity, abdomen, pelvis, and the perineum.
